Lancelot- 12 year old male cat- 3/4 Bengal, 1/4 Siamese
neutered
13 lbs
BEAM usually good, a little moody on & off past few days
Problem: broken tooth discovered at recent 6 month vet exam & unknown when this occurred.
Surgery scheduled May 25 to remove root and other teeth to be examined at that time.
Teeth seem to be a weakness for him as he has had previous tooth extractions.
Recent blood work very good.
18 months ago blood work showed urinary crystals- bladder issue, blood work improved 6 months ago and now good.

Question- what preparations pre & post surgery be recommended.
Note- My vet is not holistic and the closest one is an 8 hr drive away which would be highly stressful for the cat.
Thank you!

Thanks so much for your question Pamela! And welcome to HA!!

Lancelot's a lucky kitty to have you as his mom! Twice/year routine wellness vet checks are super important, useful, and are unfortunately not the norm.

The best way to prepare him to make sure he does well pre and post dental is to help him to be in a strong internal energetic balance.

There are lots of ways to do that. If you haven't already done so, perhaps read through the 101 course first.

You'll then probably have lots of specific questions which you can post on the forum.

The readily available flower essence, Rescue remedy (people one ok - no need for pet one) can decrease the stress of trip to vet. Put 4 drops in a small jar of water (1 ounce or so). Give a few drops orally if that is easy. Also, put some on your hands and pet him, especially just as you hand him over. Repeat as soon as you pick him up. If you have time do this a few days ahead of time during a "happy time" so he associates the RR with good times. Hypericum, a homeopathic medicine is great for problems in nerve rich areas, like gums. Arnica is good for blunt trauma (if they have to dig a lot to get the tooth out - so ask). You will find the 30c strength at local stores. Put two or three pellets in the mouth after the dental. ARnica first if there was trauma, or start with Hypericum. Repeat every 2 hours or so for 3 doses. If mouth seems sore the next day, you can try again.

Read this for more on giving remedies.
Watch Dr Kangas on dental health; non-anesthetic cleaning and info;

Working with his energy field may help restore strength to his teeth for the future. Definitely, take the 101 class for that info.

Also, great time to go to the find a vet article and get a holistic vet on your team. Read the whole article, do all the steps, and if nothing else you will find one who can help you remotely!
