Do you start with that type of water?

Yes! Or even an on faucet Brita filter (which is what I just used this am), or any filtered/bottled water.

Yes; I have a whole-house filter for all faucets, including outdoor hose bibs which water the yards and fill the hot tub. The filter is a large sand-filled canister with a pre-filter unit. I have changed out the prefilter several times over the 18 years I have been here, and have not once ever found any particulate matter or even discoloration in the filter medium. We are not in a town with large utilities, but obtain water from relatively local sources which fill a water tower, which is owned and maintained by a larger company some 100 miles away. So, local control, and water that is not over-manipulated.
I do believe we all need to use clean, unfluoridated, minimally treated water - and, oh yes, the houseplants thrive on the structured water as well.
