Hi there! Thank you so much for your time and consideration in getting back to me regarding my little pup.

Chibby, 12, Male
Neutered
Mini Schnauzer
15 lbs.

Seemingly normal behavior, energy is decent. It's hot in South Carolina right now, so his energy levels outside are a lot lower. High appetite and happy mood.
Raw diet with monorotational feeding - 3 raw meat days (beef or turkey) and 1 sweet potato and fruit day.
He's been vaccinated pretty regularly throughout his life. Just recently declined rabies and other yearly vaccines.

Chibby has had chronic dry eye in both eyes for a long time now, years. He's always had issues with conjunctivitis as well. He also has a growth on his left eyelid. I finally took him to an eye specialist, and they put him on tacrolimus 0.03%. 1 drop twice a day. They told me to come back in 3 weeks for a re-check and suggested they surgically remove the eyelid mass. Well, I've noticed over the weeks that his vision was getting worse. His eyes were a little less goopy but not by much. He also has a lot of redness around his eye on the white part. I took him back for a re-check today, and they were immediately concerned because he wasn't reacting to typical hand movement in front of his eye. They did an ERG test, and it came back that he has SARDS. He is blind. The doctor asked if anything had changed, and I said, "Yes, the drops, that's it." She immediately said that the drops couldn't have caused the blinding. When I got home from the vet, I took him for a walk, and he ran into a tree. It's like his vision is decreasing within hours. They also said his tear production is way low - 3 out of 15.

About a month ago, he got his yearly check-up, and they gave him a cytopoint shot for his itchy paws (he has a long history of allergies as well). I've noticed a decline in his energy level when outside, he always seems to be so hungry (he can never get enough), and his breath has gotten awful- seemingly in a very short timeframe. His breath actually wasn't too bad considering his age, and then all of a sudden, it is foul. I've noticed that after a 10ish minute walk during the afternoon, he is pretty weak and struggles to get up the stairs. His hind legs seem a little wobbly. If the hallway is dark, he can't see the stairs and struggles to navigate them. He seems to have the most energy first thing in the morning, he's excited to go outside and come back and eat, and doesn't have a problem navigating the stairs.

They want to put him on tacrolimus 1% and neopolydex ointment (the one with a steroid). They said to hold on removing the eyelid mass.

I feel lost and unsure about what to do because this happened so quickly. Is his vision really gone? What should I do to keep his eyes comfortable? Thank you!!
