Hi there- I have a 12 year old cat with a recently diagnosed tumor on the side of his head The only way we knew something was wrong was because his eye was protruding and constantly tearing.Vet has said whatever the mass is on the side of his head is pressing on the back of the eye causing it to protrude. We are almost at 2 months post diagnosis and he is on a keto diet, CBD, mushrooms, a liquid immune support as well as homeopathic remedies from a holistic vet. He has been doing great, eating well, sitting out in the sun all day, catching mice and acting like himself.

However, his eye is getting noticeably more irritated. He has mucous like threads on the surface of the eye and small blood like vessels coming into the iris, his third eyelid is also usually quite prominent. And he usually sleeps with that eye halfway open. The vet has given me the typical gel for lubrication but I don't think it's doing anything nor does he enjoy it. The eye does not seem to bother him, the only time he paws at it is after he gets the drops. I have been also flushing it out with normal saline but I know his eye needs lubrication/protection. Is there a more natural remedy I can use to help keep his eye from drying out and getting more irritated? I read about castor oil in dogs eyes but unsure of the safety with cats. I appreciate any suggestions!!

Hi!

Fantastic job with everything that you are doing for your kitty!! 😻😻

Yes, with eyeball protrusion and not closing his lids, his eyeball will dry out.

Hot compresses followed by a hyaluronic acid (HA) drop or gel 3-4x/day (at least twice) may be the best way to keep it lubricated. I use this one:
