Sugarfoot, 3.5 years, neutered male, DSH, approximately 11-12 pounds.
BEAM: Good appetite, plays, accepts petting but is timid and somewhat anxious normally.
Diet: Freeze dried Stella and Chewy's Raw (rehydrated), chicken necks for dental health.
Vaccines: Kitten vaccines and now only Purevax rabies; one flea treatment when rescued and neutered. Rescued at 6 months of age.
Problem is presumed FHS, is being treated by Dr. Jeff with Nux Vomica. He suggested I ask Dr. Jean for recommendations for supplements to help with his anxiety/stress. Symptoms started 8 days ago, dashing around the house, head shaking, skin from midback to tail rippling. He hid for the first several days when the episodes would occur and his anxiety was extreme. After the Nux V, he is much better, almost completely back to normal. He has continued to have occasional short episodes until yesterday, and gradually his BEAM has come back to baseline normal. We still see a little bit of head shaking once in a while. He has been on Stress Stopper since the beginning of these episodes.
He does have digestive issues which Dr. Jeff has been working on with us. He vomits his food during a meal or immediately afterward (not regurgitation) more frequently than we would like to see (as often as 2 x a day or as little as once every 2 weeks. He has had bloodwork and x-rays, without abnormal findings.
I am looking for recommendations for any other supplement(s) that may help his anxiety and FSH. We try to keep things as quiet and stress free as possible for him. There is another cat in the household. They get along well and play, but Sugarfoot is not the dominant cat. I would love to help him become more confident and resilient.
Through other posts I have seen CBD, Standard Process supplements and Rescue Remedy mentioned. There are also numerous other supplements out there claiming to help with anxiety as well. I have not had luck with Rescue Remedy with other cats. Pheromones have not helped Sugarfoot in the past.
Would welcome any suggestions regarding additional supplementation or any other thoughts . We are trying to get our mobile vet out to examine him to rule out any possible causes of the FHS-like symptoms in the meantime. Many thanks!
