Is it a seizure?

My calico Millie is likely 14-16 years old, and has dramatically lost weight to 4.8 kegs from 6.2 kgs. She is grouchy in the morning, withdrawn at times, cuddly and affectionate at times. Feeding her cooked proteins, bone broth, quality canned pates. She was vaccinated over 3 years ago. Recently has had 3 gabapentin sedations in the past month and one scary trazadone reaction, for pre appointments so she is calm enough to be assessed during vet exams. Had antibiotics last week, B12, sub q fluids and a terrible reaction, almost passed the next day. Twice now she has been curled up sleeping, when she suddenly lays back and one paw goes up over her head, and she cant move. I scoop her up in a blanket and hold her and she is lifeless, whimpers and her breathing speeds up then slows, and it feels like she’s dying. Happened last night, but then she got up, layed down on the ground for a time, got up and walked, sat up for a long time, then went for food, water and a pee. Then came back to bed.

Hey Natasha!

Welcome to HA! and thanks for making your first post.

I'm sorry to hear about Millie's health challenges. :(

Yes, these could be seizures.

Has she had a vet exam or blood tests recently? If she hasn't, it is a good idea to do so now.

Her change in BEAM and weight loss are important warning signs.

Thank you for your feedback Dr Jeff.

She has had recent bloodwork, and I we will see the vet tomorrow about the seizure and for an exam.

Millie saw the vet, wasn’t sedated so was near impossible to examine.
Vet found Millie’s heart rate normal, feels she has a lot of pain in the abdomen when she checked for mass.
Feels there’s an underlying disease process she doesn’t know because of difficulty assessing Millie.
Im so reluctant to take Millie for more assessments due to her bad reactions to sedation and meds.
Vet feels she’s in end of life, gave names of at home euthanasia vets, a kit for seizures if they get worse, and methadone for pain.

My plan is to get Millies bowels moving with Miralax, plus use pumpkin slippery elm aloe and a bit of hydrated psyllium, suggestions from HA, good food, and continue giving her Kgluconate powder to keep her levels up and see if she strengthens with regular potassium.

Found a holistic vet who can support Millie with TCM and homeopathy soon.

Do you have more ideas I can try?

Hey Natasha!

I'm glad you found a supportive vet
Vet feels she’s in end of life
Do you know upon what diagnostic data that is based? Perhaps attach her recent test results to your next message.

How's her appetite?

Exactly
Feeding her cooked proteins, bone broth, quality canned pates.
Exactly which cooked proteins and how much of the diet is the balanced canned cat foods?

Not totally sure what diagnostic data the vet is basing the end of life on, but she feels there’s an underlying disease process she hasn’t been able to find in part due to Millie’s struggles with the vet visits and meds, and not getting the X-ray done or second blood test for chemistry done.

Diet is around 70% canned foods 30% home cooked proteins.
Cooking her mostly chicken and chicken bone broth, a bit of lamb, mixing in with pates so she will eat it, some from pet store, one is Halo chicken, some from health food store too. Fish pates also and some rabbit.

Her appetite is lower in past 24 hrs, but her appetite has been strong. I do take her food and fluids because she’s not very strong or seeking out food on her own.

Recent test results are attached. Thanks so much.

This. CBC looks fine. Do you also have the blood chemistry results?

Perhaps schedule an appointment with a vet internist (a specialist) who will be able to give you a diagnosis and should also be able to work with her behavior challenges.
