Hi Everyone, My name is Nikolina and this is my first time posting. I had a 15 minute appointment with Dr. Jeff a couple of weeks ago and he suggested to post here.
.) Ellie, 7 years old, female
.) Spayed
.) Pug
.) 24 Pounds
.) B: Laying around more, E: Lower than usual, A: she eats all of her bowls, but she is eating a bit slower. Last week She wasn't wanting to eat right away when I got home from work. M: Mopey
.) I have cooked for her since October 2023. I was working with a pet nutritionist for a few months and was giving her chicken, sweet potatoes and wild blueberries with some supplements. I then switched to white fish and plain steamed potatoes with canned pumpkin because she was having allergies to chicken, she was more itchy and getting skin redness. I now give her cooked ground turkey and steamed potatoes with pumpkin. I have tried different proteins over the last couple of years like lamb and pork but she seemed to get an upset stomach. I also have tried adding a green vegetable and she was having some sensitivities to those also: cooked broccoli she seemed more itchy and was having reverse sneezing more frequently, asparagus she began having specs of blood when she would vomit, peas she seemed to get skin redness and itchy. I know she needs more variety in her diet I have just been having a hard time figuring out what to feed her. I have tried a couple multivitamins but I am not sure what would be best for her. A holistic vet I have worked with for about 5 years told me to give her a few different supplements to help her acid reflux and stomach and joints. I give her gastroelm and lubrisyn HA with MSM for her stomach and joints. I have also given her some homeopathic remedies the holistic vet would suggest. She also gets some turkey and sweet potato jerky treats.
.) She had the rabies vaccine when she was a puppy, Parvo and lepto vaccines until 2021, Lyme vaccine until 2020. She was on antibiotics quite a bit when she was a puppy for parasites, and skin allergies. She was also on apoquel and cytopoint injections for almost 2 years until 2021. I started doing titer testing for her in 2022 and tried NAET treatments for her allergies which seemed to help a little. She's had ear infections and redness which we used antibiotic ointments. She was also on steroids when she was younger for skin inflammation. She has had reactions to multiple antibiotics. She was on simpirica and interceptor until 2022. I was giving her heart guard for a couple years, but then her holistic vet recommended value heart and that's what I have given her the last couple of years. I only give it from May thru October. For fleas & ticks the vet was having me use dr mercola's diatomaceous earth with neem by sprinkling some on her back and brushing it in. I am not sure what else would be best for flea and ticks. Is there any thing else for heart worm?
.) She has multiple bumps on her chest/abdomen. I have taken her to a few vets they say by the look and feel they seem fatty except for one on her collar area they say is deeper and more firm feeling as well as one on her back left leg. She had a mast cell tumor on her front left leg in March 2024. The holistic vet I worked with had me use a black salve that I put on the tumor and it scabbed and fell off. She had me use calendula ointment for it to heal and for a couple months after she had me give Ellie Australian Blushwood Berry liquid supplement. After talking to Dr Jeff, he had mentioned how we treated the tumor, but not the underlying cause. She has had skin allergies and food allergies since she was a puppy as well as trouble expressing her anal glands. I have tried many different things conventional and natural to try and help, but her allergies never really go away and she needs her glands expressed every couple of weeks. She has recently had a UTI it was the first time she's had one. They put her on an antibiotic but she started having sneezing and became more itchy and had some red spots on her paws appear. I started giving her some homeopathic remedies to try and help her and a week ago they tested her urine and said there was no sign of a UTI now or crystals, but she seems to have to urinate a bit more frequently still than she used to. Last year in April she started limping and the vet said she has a luxating patella. Her holistic vet had me start giving her lubrisyn HA and some homeopathic remedies, rhus tox, arnica, and ruta. After a few weeks the limping stopped and she seemed better. Over this winter we weren't able to take her on a lot of walks because of the weather where we live. This past week we took her everyday for about a 20 minute walk and I have noticed she wasn't always as fast as normal during the walks and when we would get home sometimes she would hesitate to jump up her little stairs we have for her to get on the couch. Last night she couldn't jump up and today she's been laying around more and not running around. I have still been giving her the lubrisyn HA and I started the rhus tox, arnica, and ruta again. I have been reading Dr Jeff's book and started the pet care 101 class and I am starting to see how her body is out of balance and these symptoms are happening. I am looking into working with a homeopathic doctor Dr Jeff recommended. I apologize if this is too much for a post, I just wanted to be as detailed as I can. I just want Ellie to feel better and be in good health, she is everything to me.
.) The weather where we live has been going back and forth between hot and cold so I'm not sure if that may be affecting her knee also. I wonder if she is sensitive to the turkey now since that's what she has eaten for a while now. She has developed hot spots and she has dry skin especially on her belly and some skin peeling on her belly. She also has redness on her back legs and anus from scooting. Her acid reflux is still constant also even though I give her the gastroelm which has milk thistle, marshmallow root, dandelion root and slippery elm. I have also tried homeopathic remedies for the acid reflux and vomiting she used to get more often. Her teeth have tartar on them and her breath is bad. I have tried remedies for that also and plaque off in her food. I sometimes would use a finger toothbrush with some ozonated coconut oil, but her vet told me the brushing may be irritating her gums more since she has some redness. Her paws are red and she licks them a lot also.
.) She had blood work done about a year ago which came back normal. I was thinking of having them do blood work again, but I know Medical Medium mentions getting blood drawn can lower the immune system so I was wondering about that. For the bumps on her chest, the vet said they are supposed to get a machine that can scan the bumps without poking them and it can tell if it's more likely healthy tissue or not. I know Dr Jeff said the only way to know for sure would be to aspirate the bumps. I am just nervous for that also because the vet I took her to said if they are mast cell tumors, poking them could make them spread because of the histamine. She also has a small tumor on her left upper eyelid. We took her to an eye specialist and they recommended surgery to trim it and using cryotherapy. They said there is an 80 percent chance it won't come back. Where the tumor is is blocking her oil gland in the eyelid so it was filled with pus that they released when we were there, the bump was pea sized. They said it will fill up again and the tumor will get bigger also. In October that same eye was red and the vet had me use an ointment to put in her eye which worked, this was before the tumor was there. The same eye is always watery. Dr Jeff recommended using a warm compress a few times a day. I am attaching a picture of her chest with the bumps that Dr Jeff recommended me to do.
.) I have been giving her some supplements: gastroelm, lubrisyn HA, a few drops of olive leaf, homeopathic remedies for her urinary, allergies, anal glands and knee. I have tried different shampoos and mouses and creams recommended by vets. I have used zymox shampoo and duoxo. The vet recently recommended the duoxo mouse which hasn't really helped with her skin irritation and dryness.
.) Her sleep lately hasn't been great. Some nights I hear her moving around a bit, but there are nights where she is sleeping good and having dreams. She sleeps in the bed with me. She also has had an umbilical hernia since she was a puppy. When we had her spayed they said they repaired it and then we found out they never did. You can see it in the attached picture. You can see a bit of her skin peeling under the hernia as welI. I appreciate any help and advice. Thank you!
