@Dr. Jeff

Smudge, a 6mth old rescue ate a 5in pencil piece, without eating the metal tip. He drank water after and an hour after had 1 1/2 cup Medical Medium heavy metal detox smoothie. He’s whimpered a little randomly and energy-wise he seems slightly less than normal but overall good. Do you recommend immediate vet care or is observation safe for a day?

Thank you,
Catherine

If his BEAM remains good and he's eating and not vomiting you should be safe to see your vet when they open.

When's dinner? Is he usually a good eater?

Thank you for the quick response! He’s an excellent eater and dinner is at 5:30pm.

We do not have an established vet yet. What I heard you say is he needs vet care for eating a pencil but it’s safe to wait till the morning, as long as his BEAM is good and there’s no vomiting. Is there anyway to help him without vet care? I ask because of vaccination reasons, a vet in our area said he’d want to give him ALL his vaccines in one visit. I know in my heart that’s a bad idea for this dog, he’s really sensitive already!
