CKD in cat and dental challenges

Dental is never completely *off the table* but it would need to be done with care--proper anesthesia monitoring, fluid support, etc. If there are painful teeth, they are affecting his quality of life, so it's something you'll have to balance. But with good holistic support as well, it may be possible.

How can I help him?
I'm glad that he's better, and improving as we just discussed. The three options we discussed are:
1. IV fluids at the dental vet and close monitoring during anesthesia,
2. Raw chicken necks and whatever he enjoy eating and doing so he can continue to build his cellular energy and vitality,
3. Adding a vet homeopath to his vet care team to help make option #1 less risky and hopefully help his kidneys improve.

Continued spirulina and addition of the B12, Zn, and vit C.

Dental should be off the table with his blood values?
Not totally...

Unfortunatelly the dental infection came back at full speedy after exactly 7 days of stopping the antibiotic (amoxillin + clavulanic acid).

Dental: just came back from vet dentist + anstheologist appointment and they said that with his current blood work they wouldn't go for it. They suggested we would go 2 weeks antibiotic + 2 weeks break until the rest of his life.

And visiting different vets every time my beam hits 0 because they reactions are as if he has no more than 3 days to live 😢

Homeo vet: no luck. Here we are still in stone age. The only one i found said no way homeopathy can help. Can you recommend i can work with someone online?

Suplementing: since starting the spirulina with vit c, zinc etc. Bowie looks much better. Yesterday he was jumping up and down the furniture and even decided to jump over me rather than next to me which was wow.
Even with the infection which is also lowering his beam but the supplements are lifting it up from the other angle.

Raw necks: in search to find some fresh ones, not freeezed, but i doubt he would chew on it. I will try.

Other options:
1. i can have another vet appointment next week to see their opinion and option for a dental
2. would dialisys help reduce his bad blood vallues and guarantee a safer dental? We dont have dialisys in Bulgaria but there are options in Romania which is 5h drive (worth the $$$ and stress?).
3. Should I give him again antibiotic to lower the gum infection and try mechanically to clean his teeth as much as possible? right now i think it will be too painful.

Any other suggestions are helpful.
thank you 🙏

Oh dear! I'm sorry to hear about the dental vet and thank you for sharing his recommendation for off and on anti-biotics for the rest of Bowie's life.

Has he ever had IV fluids?

Are you giving him subcutaneous fluids?

Yes, I agree that virtual telehealth appointments with a vet homeopath are your next step.

If you'd like to do a full record and symptom review to help determine the best remedies to use, there are many of us that also work online.

The IAVH (International Association of Vet Homeopaths) or AVH (US) are great sources.

My own practice info is at:

Hi @Dr. Jeff
Since we last spoke Bowie has lost a lot of his appetite. Before he was eating half a portion of his regular meal, there were days in which he ate less but now it is a struggle for more than few spoons and barely any food would do the trick to make him interested.
I was giving him sleepery elm for 2 days in a row before dinner but I don’t think there is improvement right after it. He had appetite bursts many hours later.
I am no longer sure if it is nausea, dental pain, being on antibiotics for so long or just Ckd hitting him.
He is watching me with enthusiasm when I approach with food but when I offer he go for few licks or bites.
On the other hand he licks spirulina with enthusiasm.
The vet gave me cbd to try for dental pain but still haven’t started. Shall I?

Today is day 4 of nux vomica.

I want to try SubQ, I have everything ready but maybe I will try tomorrow when more clinics are open in case of some adverse reaction as he was never given any (nor IV). I am worried because of his high BP: 200 which we are working to put under control now (but not yet).

I am worried for the lack of eating.

I am no longer sure if it is...
Yes, of course.

He is watching me with enthusiasm
This is a great sign that Bowie will play the hunt for lunch meat game with you.

When Aviva's appetite was virtually absent, she'd eat a bit of baby food as part of her hunt, catch, kill, eat game (I'd wiggle my baby food coated finger back and forth).

At first, when she showed no interest in eating, I caught her attention by moving a toy/treat quickly. back and forth in front of her face.

Now when she has a lower BEAM day (like Thursday) we play her game using lunch meat turkey.

I break off a mouse-sized piece and swing it around like a wand toy iuntil she catches, kills and eats the turkey.

I want to try SubQ
Perfect!
