Very minimal amount of bacteria found in cat ear but no mites as originally suspected from increased itching. Vet suggests cleaning it with their medicinal solution but I prefer a holistic approach. Since I have never done this before, is there a step by step and trusted non toxic solution? Thank you.

There are many! However to individualize them requires lots more details.
In general, a few drops of mineral or sweet almond oil massaged into the ears will drown any mites and help the itch.
