1) Micky, Male, 6.5 years old 2) Intact 3) Chihuahua Mix with Pekingese (says papers, I am not convinced...) 4) weight 3.9 kgs

5) Not normal BEAM. He has been less playful for a couple of weeks - I think both because of medication for large prostate that affected him differently this time and because of pain that the vet couldnt figure out where it came from.
Now we found out it is because of his loose knee cap that got worse and gone from 1st degree to 3rd. It can be off place and he can still move his legs.

6) Currently primarily grass fed raw beef and wild venison, greens and supplements

Vet suggested antiinflammatory, meloxicam, I know it is shit, but I said yes, because Micky was in a lot of pain, whining and limping. He gave him much less than what his weight dictates and he could walk again. Vet says it can only be managed for pain and/or surgery.

I have given him many of the Medical Medium approved suppplemets for his joints (primarily Best Paw Nutrition liquid joint supplement, glucosamine, msm, etc etc.), but what else can be done naturally?
I have given him the green lipped mussel supplement too.

What can be done naturally or homeopathically to manage pain?

Can patella heal fully in any way? Or is surgery needed at some point?

If it can only get worse over time and only managed short term, wouldnt it be better just to do the surgery instead of possible letting it get worse, loosing more cartilage and maybe even having bigger health problems with his heart etc., that would make surgery more risky in the future?

Could PRP help his kneecap and joints?

He might need to get neutered anyway due to enlarged prostate - so it is possible to do both at the same time?

(Even though my vet says he will probably be affected mood/energy wise if he gets neutered since the prostate medication made him so tired/less playfull/laying all day unless being out, so he is not super supportive of the idea of neutering him despite enlarged prostate, because of little symptoms.
If neutering does the same or worse as the medication I would be really sad for him, because he seemed much less energetic and happy. He is usually so sweet, happy, playfull and he just seemed off laying tired most of the day. A month later he is bit more back to normal, but now has pain due to kneecap)

Looking forward to hearing your advice,
Thank you for all that you do.

Much love Sofie

Hiya Sofie!

I'm sorry to hear about Micky's health challenges. :(

You have lot of great questions about his prostate, dislocating kneecaps, and manifestations of apparent pain.

The answer to them all is that it depends on the context of his individuality.

This reply is meant to also guide you to the one thing that determines his individuality, which has resulted in all of his health issues.

That one thing is the internal energetic balance.

This balance is a result of everything in his early life like history, vaccines, medication, etc. in addition to what has gone on, and everything in his environment, since you adopted him.

IMHO, veterinary homeopathy is the best way to address this. Perhaps consider adding a trained and experienced veterinary homeopath to his team before trying other approaches.

Many of us work virtually, so we can help you from anywhere in the world.

In 40 years I have only seen a few small dogs need surgery for luxating patellas. These dogs are usually overweight and have other issues like Micky.

Continued (the process is one of deep and gradual healing) and gentle homeopathic treatment often resolves all the issues.
