Mila- 13 year old Shiba Inu x Alaskan Klee Kai
Female- neutered / 21lbs
BEAM- increased thirst and sudden onset of incontinence/leaking when asleep. Eating slightly less (generally one meal a day) but eating well. Playful/energetic and otherwise acting totally normal.
Diet: home-cooked regimen of fresh meats/veggies/sweet potato & rice. Also supplements.
7. Up-to-date on vaccines, no medication otherwise.
8. The primary issue is that she has suddenly began leaking/drinking more and her labs show potential for very early chronic kidney disease (attached). Urinalysis shows she is not concentrating her urine well.
9. No- apart from labwork and leaking she is not showing signs of disease.
10. Yes- senior blood panel and urinalysis (attached)
11. Currently the vet says to lower the protein in her food and has prescribed one of the processed canned foods. I am uneasy with this approach! Otherwise it's just monitoring although we are considering doing more testing to rule out cushings (due to high cortisol (ALP- labs attached) and increased thirst/urination). Urine cortisol levels were not tested yet.
12. No other health concerns- lately she seems a bit clingier and anxious (which is rare for a shiba!)
Another factor is we are due to go away for 3 weeks in November- she is staying with my sister but I want to make sure she is stable and we have an accurate treatment plan by then.
I am local (Fairfield CT) and would also be open to coming in for consultation in person if Dr Jeff has space in his practice.
Thank you!
