Thyroid help

Hello,
My male neutered GSD thyroid levels are low (confirmed by Hemopet) and calcium a bit low - both levels coming up slightly from last blood draw (first with Hemopet on 2/6; second on 3/24). Added SP Thyrophm PMG (which was along with Petswellbeing Thyroid Silver,) is on a about 1/8 teaspoon of kelp and added Pets Friend Glandular (which contains 15 mg thyroid). Looking at Pet Health and Nutrition Thyroid Glandular (thyroid from New Zealand bovine no fillers at all). Low calcium levels is coming out of now where (for both dogs; spayed female thyroid normal). Everyone keeps recommending synthetic thyroid but I am too familiar with the consequences of synthetic (and they do not nuture the organ). Their earlier blood work in January (via Zoetis local lab) showed no signs of low thyroid or low calcium. My guy does not show "typical" symtoms of hypothyroid. Very good energy, nice fur, skin...
Past years bloodwork was early in the morning after he had his supplements in breakfast (now learning SP TPMG should be on empty stomach), but nevertheless were normal ranges. Blood draw from 2/6 and 3/24 were late afternoon - could part of this be timing of blood draw. Trying to help them both nutritionally and naturally, I do not want to cause any added problems with meds. Thank you for any help.

Sounds like your happy and active up isn't bothered by his blood test results!

What's he eating?

Do you have any specific questions?

Have you had a chance to read any of the Path to Pet Wellness? I ask because the different path it maps out may be helpful.

Thank you!! Nice to be back!

He doesn't appear to be (although when laying down to sleep he looks sad (may be reading into this). I have not had a chance to sit down and fully read, each one of my little ones has been dealing with something and trying to level everyone out.

He (both my pups) eat 100% 80 / 10 / 10; grass fed meats (variety beef, rabbit vension, goat, lamb, turkey) mostly pregrinds (raw feeding miami and similar) US wellness pet raw patties; and slankers grass fed pet patties. Recently read how feeding turkey, etc. necks may provide increase to thyroid levels (?).

Specifically, how best I can help him and bring his thyroid levels back up?

Would Thorne immunity or similar product help overall (as I read a little about thyroid appears may be idiopathic reason for reduced levels; or pituitary or autoimmune. Trying to gauge how best to help him. His earlier bloodwork that was sent to Zoetis on 1/16/26 thyroid levels and calcium levels were fine; but bilirubin and GGT were elevated (but those were not elevated on Hemopets 2/6 or 3/24) - conflicting results on bloddwork.

Yes, I think a call would be helpful too. Please let me know what works.

Hi Dr. Jeff,
I read the similar post below, thank you! I was recommended to put him on synthetic by HP (which I will not do); and HP provided some alternative "natural" options but they all contain fillers and porcine (see attached sheet). Prefer bovine after some reading on each. Ancestral has a supplement (primarily focus is humans) but wondered if can be adjusted for pups - Grass Fed Thyroid New Zealand bovine tested for purity. Would that be something I could give him?

You are certainly thinking the right way, Gail. Good for you to not want to go onto synthetic. Since this is a new finding, I would not be focused on too many supplements at this time. Keep reading, and making a list of possibilities.

I have seen problems with over supplementation with any dog. Focus on exercise, keep up the good food. Maybe add in some dental support by feeding some big chunks of meat, heart, turkey necks/backs, etc so he uses his teeth.

Have you taken the 101 course yet? lesson 1 emphasizes that symptoms/lab results are merely clues/indicators of an underlying ENERGY imbalance, not necessarily
"disease". Now may be a great time to build your holistic health care team, especially with a vet (could be virtual) who can help re-balance the energy field with homeopathy or Chinese medicine. Follow the guidance in this article. When the energy field is balanced, the body no longer needs to produce problems in the thyroid, you will not need to continue with supplements (so no need to worry which are best) and there will be improved health overall.

You may want to start keeping a journal as well.

@Dr. Jeff - Dr. Jeff is the best on the question about the timing of the blood draws for the thyroid.

Thank you for your help.
I have not taken the 101 course yet but plan on doing so this weekend.
My former 'holistic' vet of 25+ years closing doors; found new vets for in home visits, while not quite holistic overall, they are very open and respect how I want my pups to be treated. (many in office vets I reached out to in the area want a series of vacs before in office visit.)
I've reached out to a TCM traveling vet I found that was on the TCM vet directory, but she wants a series of vac before she comes to the house (oddly). Still searching.

And good for you to keep on with it.
Maybe your team could be the open mobile vet for hands on and diagnostics paired with a virtual homeopath. From working with so many homeopathic vets, dogs with hypothyroid problems (if there really is an issue, which I doubt) usually respond very well to classical homeopathic care. As a member, Dr. Jeff can be your virtual homeopath.

Sure, it is fine for dogs. Last I checked though this product did not contain any thyroid hormone. If you double check with the company, please let everyone here know.

Awe-some!! As Christina said, and as you know, supplements, foods and some drigs can be great support. Deep balance needs to be at the energetic level.

Yes, I think the new vets are going to be wonderful, they are great with my animals. I know I often wondered if there has been a misread on his thyroid all these years. I read how viruses can get into an organ and cause an imbalance. (He (as seemingly like everyone) tests positive for lyme, did not get C6 number this year but typically around 150 - Sustenance Herbs Bor-L-Immune - tick season immune support for dogs and horses, which seems to "keep" numbers low. He's never been symptomatic.)
