Small blood stain coming from penis

Cooper (7mo) had a little blood that came and stained something. No flow of blood. His penis was exposed. Seems like since it was exposed he may have caused some bleeding. Is there any cause for concern or just something that can happen? Sorry our first dog so pardon my ignorance when I may ask seemingly basic questions

Separately, I am looking to schedule an hour 1-1 with @Dr. Jeff but would love some initial feedback on above?

Hey Mike-

If Cooper's BEAM is fine, and is not actively bleeding, you might just wait to wait and watch.

Have you noticed any other possible urinary symptoms like frequency, or urgency on urinating?

Also, @Dr. Sara may have some other thoughts.

Some male dogs, especially youngsters, will do silly things to their delicate penile tissue. This can happen when they mount and hump objects, or when they are cleaning smegma off their prepuce. Usually, as long as everything is normal, as Dr. Jeff has already confirmed with you, there is no cause for concern, and the situation resolves on its own.

The amount of smegma males produce is highly individual, and can be affected by oncoming sexual maturity. Smegma is intended to be a protective and lubricative substance, and it can also be increased if debris is present in the prepuce, such as can occur with dogs that dig a lot.

If Cooper seems to have a lot of smegma coming out of his prepuce, it is not necessarily a problem. However, excessive amounts may be annoying to him, and it may make him lick his prepuce more. You can hold a cloth soaked in warm Epsom salts (diluted as for soaking feet) up to the prepuce (along the shaft and covering the tip) for 5 to 15 minutes if Cooper will tolerate it. Most male dogs seem to like it. The Epsom salts help loosen the sticky smegma and wash it off without the dog needing to scrub it off with their tongue.
I hope this helps!

Thanks Sara for that detailed and instructive response. Very helpful context and now we understand why he licks his prepuce. All good here now.
