Hi, would love some support on how best to treat seizures and epilepsy in dogs. Some details about my dog:

Name: Thor
Age: 6
Breed: Australian Shepherd x Poodle
Neutered: Neutured age approx 7 Mths
Weight: 24kg
Behaviour: Incredibly gentle, loves dogs, loves people, I would describe him as a bundle of love and fluff. He is so special to us and just adores his family and life. Everyone who meets him comments on how beautiful natured he is. Loves his food and very food driven, has a sensitive stomach as well. Loves exercising and plenty of energy most of the time.
Issues: Started having seizures about 8 -10 Mths ago on a random basis, generally while he was sleeping or resting. He is never had one outside of his home environment and we cant work out any specific triggers for them. They were initially only 1 every couple of months, then gradually got closer and closer with them being monthly. He was put on medication by the Vet with Levetiracetam (keppra) 500mg 3 x daily & Pexion 400mg 2 x daily. We also consulted a holistic vet who did some acupunture and prescribed a herbal remedy 2 x daily, he believed his seizures were caused by too much heat in his body which was affecting his brain. In the last month, his Pexion was increased from 1 tablet to 1.5 tablet x daily to try to reduce his monthly seizures as they are quite violent, with paddling and frothing of the mouth and urination. He hadnt had a seizure for about 5 weeks, then he had 2 violent seizures within the hr 2 days ago. He ended up in the ICU at an emergency vet and we nearly lost him as he suffered fluid on the chest and breathing difficulties. They believe he suffered from pneumonia along with the seizure. They have put him on various medications and taken him of the pexion but added the phenobarb at 30mg x daily (I was hoping to keep him off this drug). He is also currently on antibiotics Amoxyclav 400mg 1.5 tablets x 3 per day and Erythromycin Susp 40mg 3 x daily. He was also sedated in the Vets to keep him calm. Im not giving these to him at home as he is ok but obviously wiped out by the drugs, so he still recovering. I would love to wean him off the phenobarb and ideally all meds eventually.
Diet: Was initially on a grain free organic dry food as his stomach would react when giving him raw but have been transitioning him to a more raw diet over the past 12 Mths and has been on raw lamb, beef & kangaroo with some cooked veg and as I follow MM for my own healing, I have been adding in the Heavy Metal Detox ingredients to his meals, wild blueberries, spiralina, atlantic dulse. He also gets some an apple or pear daily.
Environment: We dont use toxic chemicals in or around the home, but outdoors, he eats grass and some dirt at the park, so he will be exposed to toxins in the environment.
Diagnostics: He has had various bloods done, especially toxicology which have all come back clear. Would love some advice on how best to support and beloved dog. He is so special to us. Thx and sorry for the long post. @Dr. Jeff, @dr.Christina

Welcome to HA! and thanks so much for making your first post about Thor.

He's one lucky fella to have you. And he looks super happy (and cute).

There are lots of physiological things you can do to decrease his seizures by raising his seizure threshold. One of them is adding a methyl donor and liver support such as:

However, most important IMHO is starting to work with an experienced and well-trained vet homeopath. The underlying cause of his seizures and GI issues is related and is both energetic in origin. As he approaches energetic balance, all of his symptoms will reduce (and maybe even stop!).

You may also want to grab the first 20 pages of my forthcoming "Path to Pet Wellness" book, which lays out this framework that integrates physiological and energetic vet med:
