Hello @Dr. Jean Hofve, @Dr. jeff and @Dr. Christina,

We have a five-month-old kitten and she's been on raw but mostly on rabbit/pork and sometimes chicken...(she turned away from beef, venison, turkey, and bison) and we buy these as meat blends with 80% meat 10% organs and 10% bones. We have tried putting her on SmallBatch and VivaRaw raw blends with veggies but she did not like them much. We are considering venturing into making homemade raw blends with different proteins (i.e., beef, turkey...etc.) at home and with premix powder to make the meals more balanced.

Do you have any recommendations on premix? I found this one and am curious to know your thoughts: My Natural Cat Plus Chicken Liver - Feline Instincts

Here's a link to its brochure: https://felineinstincts.com/wp-cont...Cat-Brochure-with-CLP-and-calcium-lactate.pdf and a tutorial video:

Any other recommendations on premix powder would be super helpful. Thank you for your time.

This is a good supplement and will work. Not crazy about some of the inaccurate claims they make on their website but the product is fine and one of the ONLY truly complete supplements for meat. BalanceIt is also good. Haven't found anything else I really trust.

Thank you so much, Dr. Jean! The recipe calls for salmon oil. I have Moxxors on hand, how much of it would you suggest I add to the mix? Thank you again!

It depends on how many days’ worth of food you are making at once… I generally recommend 1/2 to 1 capsule per cat per day. It’s much more bioavailabie than other Omega 3 oils so it doesn’t take much.

Hi Dr. Jean - Here's the instructions I found - I found it odd that, for 2 pounds of raw meat, only 2 salmon oil capsules (2000 mg) is called for. What are your thoughts? Thank you so much.

Shake premix well. Mix the following ingredients in a large bowl and stir well as you add each item.
-Add 1 + 1/2 (337ml) cups filtered water
-Use 2/3 cup (70gr) My Natural Cat premix
-Add 2 Salmon Oil Capsules (2000 mg) or 1 stroke of the salmon oil pump.
-Add 2 pounds of raw meat (900grams)
-Stir completely.

@Dr. Jean Hofve @Dr. Jeff @Dr. Christina
Is this supplement that Christine mentions or that Jean also mention, BalanceIt, better to use than the one I use from here? A Guide To A Balanced, Homemade Cat Food - Alnutrin Supplements

Alnutrin's complete supplement is comparable to the others. Any of them would work.

@Dr. Jean Hofve

Okay, thank you. So I can safely continue to give the Alnutrin powder. 🙂

I asked them for advice on how much vitamin powder to add to raw meat.
I was told to add 3.7 grams of vitamin powder to 250 grams of raw meat.

What do you think about that?

I'm attaching the picture of the vitamin powder bag here from Alnutrin, so you can see what it contains.1000003406.jpg

Hi @Dr. Jean Hofve I add TCFeline Special Mix to our cat's raw meat. I make it in batches according to the directions. Do you think this is a good product? Do I need to add any other supplements? TCfeline Special Formula Premix - Feline Future Cat Food Company Should I be adding some wild salmon oil and veggies, like broccoli or squash, to their meals as well? I'm very new to this, so thanks for any help.

No just that. It is intended to make meat into a complete diet. No veggies.
Oh okay, glad to hear the premix is a good product. But, could I add a small amount of veggies or organic baby food veggies for variety? My cats are becoming fussy. One of my cats has the onset of kidney disease, so I'm only using turkey and chicken now. I was giving her (them) beef every day. Once a week, though, I will feed my cats with either Smack dehydrated meat or Kasiks cage-free canned food. My concern is making sure they have complete meals. My husband went out and bought the Wild Alaskan Salmon Oil. Now, I'm not sure what to do with it. Can I add 1/4 tsp to my meal batch for 3 cats? I would love any suggestions on how to get my cats to drink water. I do put about 1/2 cup of water in the meal batch I make, but that is for 3 cats. I have 3 water fountains in my garage because they won't drink from them. I've run the tap, but no takers. Thank you.

IMO, cats don't need veggies. I wonder if you might want to add some Aventi kidney supplement to ward off serious kidney symptoms for the one. They have good info on their web page. I do like the salmon oil, and a 1/4 tsp is certainly not excessive. But I'm not the cat vet, nor any other kind.

I just got a call from my vet and my cat has stage 3 kidney disease. @Dr. Jean Hofve @Dr. Christina Should I get the Aventi kidney supplement? For 10 years my cat ate kibble cat food until I finally got wise. Now I am trying to help my pets enjoy healthy lives with raw foods. I'm sure the poor food led to her kidney disease. Can it be reversed? Would love any feedback.
