Hi!
I could use suggestions on training Cooper to go potty on our deck. Currently, we take him on a walk once a day in the afternoon but it's stressful bc he pulls non-stop.
Are there training programs you'd recommend? I see so many on line.

We don't seem to have a local trainer here for everything else. Though we'd be willing to travel within the tri-state area for special training.

Is it too much to ask that he is very well trained, similar to a service dog or is that overkill?

You're more than welcome to come on the ride with me and Maya while we work on shaping her behavior.

Try tagging @jenbridwell on puppy questions.

She also has uploaded a bunch of stuff on the forum.

For the 1:1 you may need, Jen also does virtual training (yes, it works well)!

As you may know, she's a dog (and human) trainer HA! faculty member and BEAM shaper extraordinaire on the forum.

Hi Sheri-

I’d be happy to help you with virtual lessons, or as Dr. Jeff mentioned, I have uploaded quite a few written resources here. I can email them to you directly, as well. For training Cooper to “go” on the porch, start over as if you hadn’t done any housebreaking training. Take him there when you can predict he will need to relieve himself. Stand nearby (you might keep him on lead, to start) with treats ready. Be a tree for 5 minutes- don’t interact with him, just observe. When he goes, praise effusively, use your conditioned reinforcer if you have one, and treat. If he doesn’t go, take him back inside and keep him on leash attached to you or in his crate for 10-15 minutes(sooner if you see signs of getting ready to go,)and take him back out and repeat until you have success. Playtime and/or walks AFTER he goes.

Hope this helps! Get in touch if you need clarification or want to set up a lesson.

Thanks Jen! It makes sence...starting over. Oh boy!
Where can the written resources can be found? And yes, we are interested in virtual training soon! Can you tell me your fee and how long per appt pls? Thanks :)

I'm not sure where they are on the site @Dr. Jeff ? But you can email me directly at [email protected] so I can send and discuss virtual lessons :)

@SheriS maybe start with the puppy housebreaking guide linked in this thread:
