Hi,

My dog is black lab, named Toby. He is almost 4 years old. He just ate almost the entire smoked pork hock, I did take the rest of it when I saw it, but he ate more than half. I’m really worried right now because of the bones that he ate. What would you recommend to do now? Thank you.

Hi Viktoriia-

How's Toby's BEAM? Does he seem to feel sick, be nauseus, retching, etc. since eating the bone?

Did he scarf down the bone quickly, or chew carefully?

In general, BEAM is a good indicator of the severity of any health challenge. However that being said, and anytime you are worried, an ER visit and exam are warranted.

Often only that exam +/- supportive SQ fluids are needed.

Dogs in the wild, or homeless, often eat "forbidden" foods and have no trouble with them.

Do not worry, merely be observant of any symptoms. Maybe fast tomorrow AM if there is even a hint of digestive upset. If feeding and you have probiotics - now would be a good time for them.
