Hi, i have written in another thread regarding vomiting of my now 9 month old Maltese. He has had a liver shunt surgery ( about 3 weeks ago) and kidney stones removed related to the shunt, and has since been doing well....except that he has continued with his vomiting either every night or every other night, and some night he does not vomit at all
I feed him at 730/8pm at night and then give him a treat at 830/9 pm at night and then he retreats for bed at 10pm. He is on a bland diet of sweet potatoes and ground chicken or ground turkey (pureed) and will be on this diet till after he has his acid bile test to confirm how much the shunt has closed.
He often wakes up around 130am -2am heaving and then vomiting bile...yellow foamy liquid. The other night he vomited several times and had diarrhea and we took him to the emergency room. They took X-rays and did not find anything and gave him some probiotics and a medicine ( anti nauseas) to stop the vomiting. This morning at 6am he began to heave and threw up a mall amount of bile and then was fine. But normally he will throw up in the wee hours of the night.
My dog is active, happy and eats well, and I think if he could he would eat more.
I spoke with the surgeon who did the liver shunt surgery and she feels this is does not correlate with the shunt and feels we can look into getting another ultrasound done, blood work or seek an internal specialist, or holistic medicine. She doesn't feel this was consistent with Billious vomiting syndrome as the vomiting begins in the middle of the night.
I have contacted the holistic specialist about 75 mins from us and his fee is rather costly, especially after paying out for a liver shunt surgery. I plan to contact the holistic vet that is at our veterinarian and see what they suggest. Any thoughts or ideas would be appreciated. Thank you..
