Huaier mushroom for cancerous tumors

I just came across this mushroom today but can't find it in any supplements or really anywhere online for pets. The Happy Healing Store says: Tremetes Robinophila (Huaier) mushrooms have been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 1,600 years. New research suggests that Huaier may be associated with various biological disease fighting activities, such as inhibition of cell proliferation, anti-metastasis, interference with tumor angiogenesis, and tumor-specific immunomodulatory effect. I also found this paper: An immune-stimulating proteoglycan from the medicinal mushroom Huaier up-regulates NF-κB and MAPK signaling via Toll-like receptor 4 - PMC I'd like to know if it's safe to give to Duke. I know my local vet won't have heard of it. And if anyone has any experience using it. Why is it not known in the US?

1. DUKE, 14 years 10 mos, M
2. Neutered
3. Lab/Kelpie
4. 52#
5. Appetite waning more often upon initiation of a meal. Once eating, he gobbles the food down and often wants more.
6. Home cooked all organic meat + veggies + sweet potato
7. Severe malnourishment upon rescue at age 8. Was given 5 vaccines at that time (before I adopted him)
8. Lump discovered near groin and left rear leg; has grown considerably since that time. (Had a consultation with Dr. Loops; he thought it sounded like hemangiosarcoma or soft cell carcinoma)
9. Is the condition better or worse from exercise, heat, cold, time of day, certain foods, emotional upset, being touched, excitement, etc? Still pretty much his normal self; just slowing down due to arthritis and older age
10. They tried to aspirate it several times and got bloody samples. Didn't do any further diagnosis.
11. Current and previous treatment. PEMF 3x/day (started 2 weeks ago), vitamin b17 (laetrile), mushroom supplements (turkey tail, reishi, lion's mane, shitake), cbd, curcumin, colostrum, Bengston method (so far 8 sessions with Eric Bates), deuterium depleted water (Aquene Springs)
12. Osteoarthritis in knees.

Hey Addie!

Welcome to HA! VIP and thanks for making your first post.

I'm sorry to hear about Duke's tumor.

How's his BEAM?

I did some research and couldn't find much about that mushroom (as you already knew).

The most recent work I found was about using it for digestive complaints.

Not a lot out there re-cancer research.

As with almost every mushroom, there is work showing that it can be an immune booster or help with cancer.

Due to the paucity of work on this mushroom, I'd guess the evidence for using it is not compelling.

Regarding mushrooms perhaps read some of Dr. Silver's info:

He's a vet expert and sells a bunch of mushrooms.

We also had a recent webinar about animals with cancer with Julie from Adored Beast. She had some compelling evidence for:

And very, very important is focusing on Duke's happiness, joy, quality of life and BEAM.

We visited our integrative vet yesterday and brought her up to date on recent findings re MCTs. She enthusiastically recommends Chaga mushrooms in any form, and especially in ABA's formulation. She also likes frankincense oil applied topically, so we have added that in.
There are a lot of factors in addressing cancer, not the least of which is a big dose of positive attitude:)
