Flies on canned cat food. Is it still ok to feed ?

I began feeding an outdoor cat mom and two generations of kittens yesterday. They come out of hiding at night. I fed some canned food last night for the first ever feeding and they gobbled it up. This morning I put some more canned food out in the same spot, with an ant platform under it. I had to go away for about 2 hours and when I returned they hadn't eaten it at all but there were several flies on it . The temperatures are in the low 80's. I brought it inside and refrigerated it. Is it ok to add water and put it back out tonight? It's rather expensive and I don't want to waste it while they get used to getting fed in the morning as well. I intend to TNR and continue feeding them. Thank You.

Yes.

And now that you're a forum pro, we'd all love to hear about your recent experience with Love Therapy.

This is one discussion about it:

In warm weather, I do not leave food out for more than 20-30 minutes. It's best to pick it up or bring it in, cover, and put back out when you get home. Depending on where you are in the country, certain fly larvae can pose a bit of a risk.
