Hello,
I posted for the first time about a year ago a couple months after I rescued my Chiweenie Augustine, now 4 years old.
For an update on Auggie, she had tooth extractions done in May, and her bloodwork showed signs she might’ve been malnourished in the past, though now all her results were ok.
I’m writing today about her paw allergies, which she’s had since she came home to us. Over the course of the year, especially after her dental surgery, her allergies worsened and she’s lost all pigment in her 4 paws (went from black to pale pink) and her lips did as well. I’ll attach pics. Right now her paws have lost fur around her knuckles and it’s like the allergies moved from the bottom to the top of her paws.
The paw allergy comes and goes and is especially bad right now. We’ve been to a couple conventional vets who offered allergy shots and meds, but warned us it could burden her liver over time and that the allergies do eventually come back, so it’s a road I want to avoid. Auggie also has a small fatty lump near her spine (also had it from before coming to us), and I read the shots and medicine offered are contraindicated for dogs with lumps due to the risk of causing cancer.
She eats Honest Kitchen beef option for her meals, has half a capsule of Vimergy micro-c, about 8 drops of olive leaf, a few drops of propolis, a few drops of zinc and b12, a very small amount of spirulina and barley grass juice powder (all by Vimergy), and I sprinkle her food with turmeric. This combination improved and began to clear her paws at first, but then now that’s changed. I tried to add coconut oil to her meals to help with that, but her tummy didn’t agree with it so I pulled back. We also give her Pet Honesty Omega Skin Health treats, which also helped at first but now don’t seem to.
Her BEAM is same as usual, and she doesn’t seem to be in pain, just licks her paws a lot though she stops when we tell her to. She hates booties but we’re trying to test different styles and find one she can tolerate because even though I understand the general explanation of seasonal allergies in dogs, I believe she’s actually allergic to whatever people spray on their grass outside. We wipe her paws clean every time she goes for a walk.
Looking forward to your advice. Thank you
@drJeff
