Hi @Dr. Jeff, Lychee, 5 y/o 22 lb intact male corgi went to the emergency room a week ago after eating apricots, including pits, off the floor (our fault) and consulting with the vet. (I drafted my question afterwards, saved the draft after edits, but after my browser crashed, I had to restart my computer. The entire draft disappeared and took awhile to recall what I had written.) She administered apomorphine to induce vomiting and metoclopramide to stop it. I asked if it was okay to give him coconut water afterwards since he lost electrolytes and she said it was fine as long as he didn’t gulp it down. Since he loves coconut water, I could only give him small amounts after got to the car to ensure he didn’t gulp it and after we got home. He rested most of the car ride home and sat up as neared home. After arriving home, he was running around and tracking me in the span of ~45 minutes as if he never vomited 6 times and the vet even wrote in the discharge summary that apomorphine could cause mild sedation and to keep him rested. Even though it appeared as if the medications didn’t affect him at all, I was wondering if there was anything I should still do to ensure his system completely detoxes out all the medications.

BEAM – Generally shy and fearful of strangers, especially men due to being pandemic puppy, but asks for pets from people familiar with. PTSD from nail trimming at vet during pandemic likely because staff handled him roughly and couldn't go in with him. Barks at dogs he doesn’t like. Likes to run outside at the beginning of his walks, sleeps normally at night and naps during day. Doesn't drink much water due to being on raw diet and drinking coconut water daily. Loves to train us to give him food whenever we’re eating and scavenge around the kitchen for food dropped even though recently increased his food due to being under ideal body weight according to vet. Happy when about to eat or go on walk.

Daily Diet
  • 8-9 oz raw grassfed beef/bison, once in a while steamed salmon
  • sometimes dehydrated turkey jerky for variety
  • 4 pieces dehydrated turkey hearts
  • 2 pumps wild salmon oil
  • 1 duck neck/day for 4 days, stools normal, but got constipated so Sage recommended stop for 5-7 days before resuming and add in 2-3 times/week after
  • sprinkle Animal Essentials sea calcium (when not fed bone), Vimergy barleygrass juice powder, spirulina, Kin+Kind Healthy Calm supplement on top of 1/4 apple, 3 sprigs parsley, 1 large raw broccoli/broccolini stem, small handful of seasonal greens puree with coconut and spring water, 1/2 tsp Vimergy chaga powder, 1/4 tsp raw honey, 2-3 tbsp pumpkin puree, 2 drops Vimergy D3, 1 tbsp wild blueberry juice, 1 garlic clove
  • 2 Kongs filled with seasonal fruits like mango, stone fruits, cherimoya, dragonfruit, pear, kiwi, berries, handful steamed potatoes, steamed seasonal veggies like artichoke hearts, asparagus, peas
  • 2 oz celery juice
  • Supplements mixed with coconut water: 3 drops Vimergy zinc, B12; 2 drops propolis, olive leaf, nettle; 7 drops lemon balm; 2 dashes micro-C; 6 dropperfuls Sovereign Silver Pets; 15 mL Orgono silica; 30 mg Pure Encapsulations CoQ10
  • 1 celery stick for chewing
  • 1 small piece of dehydrated sweet potato chew
After vaccinosis from first series of vaccines, was sick and mostly sleeping for 3 days after, then got aggressive, fearful. After second series as puppy, vomited in car and never gave him any again. Try to avoid lawns in neighborhood I’ve seen spray pesticides, but sniffs on lawns or grassy areas in parks that could potentially be sprayed - haven’t seen them being sprayed either so unsure about that specifically.

yea, Samantha, for using Sage and doing so much for Lychee.

Detoxing - and this is for everyone - is very rarely a concern and the best approach to "detox" is to build health, and "treat" according to any symptoms still present.

Sounds like Lychee did not have a sensitivity in the vital force to be triggered by any of the drugs, so he responded with a quick return to high BEAM.

Though it does sound like you need to do some work to find a better local vet. In addition to those holistic sites, do see if there is a VEG ER near enough to you for acute problems. They are the new service in the US and super good to you and your dog.

Long term, I wonder if you have listened to some of the wonderful talks we have had on decreasing anxiety, getting him to love being examined and treated and how that is progressing for you.

Dr. Christina
