Dermatitis for a kitty in foster care

Hi everyone, I’d really appreciate your thoughts on this kitty.

He was found outside and appeared to have some skin issues, likely from life on the street and possible fights. He was seen by a vet the day before his TNR and was diagnosed with dermatitis (no feline diseases). The following day (Friday), he was TNR’d—so he was neutered and vaccinated.

I’ve attached two photos for reference—one from Monday, where his skin looked irritated but more mild, and one from today (Wednesday), where it appears to have worsened.

He’s been through a lot in a short period of time—being outside, vet visit, surgery, and now transitioning into a foster home—so I do think stress could be playing a role.

Since his skin seems to be progressing rather than improving, I’d love to hear your recommendations for more natural or supportive ways to help his skin heal and keep him comfortable. I’m especially interested in options that a foster can realistically implement in a home setting.

I’m also planning to encourage the foster and rescue to be on board with a more supportive/healing approach, so any guidance I can share with them would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,

Anna

I'd suggest that the skin is the body's largest - and likely most effective - organ of elimination. I'd feed him well, love him a lot, and stand back:), at least for the time being.

Totally agree with ginny
And, especially since you are educating a new person.
1. always, with any question, check the resources library. In the skin book there are several paragraphs on topicals. Also, you may want to jot down some of the sections about why, especially with skin, it is best to let the skin heal from the inside.
2. Maybe she would be willing to take the 101 course.
Fresh food! Happy dances. Play.
