Hello,

@Dr. Jeff @Dr. Christina @Dr. Jean Hofve

Just wanted to post to get any help I can get to try to save my dog

Beanie’s been in the care of my parents but his health has been declining with the advice of traditional vets, he has trouble eating digesting and pooping and now hes developed a bit of a megacolon. Needs manual disimpaction enemas etc. But the vet suggested putting him down bc their treatments havent gotten him better and hes been in quite a bit of pain

I follow medical medium and holistic protocols and ive convinced my parents to let me take care of him for couple more days to help them reconsider putting him down. I did a couple years of med school on hold now, im trying to put some kind of emergency care plan for him.

His addisons is pretty well managed by meds and he can still eat pureed foods. Just cant digest some of the meat/fish and stuff well and lots of trouble getting it out.

Im thinking of putting him on a protocol of liquid/pureed foods. Lot of plants? for a while or if meat very well cooked and blended to ease the pressure on his colon and let him heal. Celery juice, aloe water, wild blueberries, zinc, b12, barley grass juice powder, etc etc.

If anyone has any suggestions for foods supplements etc pleaseee let me know!!!

1. Your pet's name, age, sex

Beanie, 5.5 years old, M

2. Neutering status - Neutered

3. Breed - Standard Poodle

4. Approximate weight - 21kg now

5. What's their BEAM (behavior, energy, appetite, mood)
Behaviour - when he was with me while parents on vacation, quite energetic and appetite for 1-2 meals a day. Good mood with me. Very happy to walk and explore.

6. Diet
Tried easier to digest formula kibbels that the vet prescribed? My mom also purees some white fish, sweet potato, potato, carrot, chicken for him. He likes eating it but cant push out the feces.

7. Vaccination history / exposure to toxins, other medication

Think he got all the standard vaccines
hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone for his addisons would have to check the dose

8. Primary problem, when it began and if there was anything else happening around that time

Right now its his constipation/megacolon.

Hes struggles with constipation and bowel movement for a couple months now, gradually worsening. Now kind of reliant on disimpaction, enema, suppositories when poop builds up. Painful for him to try to defecate and his anus is quite red and swollen. No infection or injury from what Ive gathered.

His vet thinks that the colon is not moving due to his worsening addisons?

When he stayed with me for 3 weeks about 2-3 months ago he was defecating well.

Since going back to my parents place (they live in the country and kinda secluded. My mom works as pharmacist like 45 min away so I think theres quite a bit of time where hes left alone in the house. I imagine he gets quite bored and sad on his own.

9. Is the condition better or worse from exercise, heat, cold, time of day, certain foods, emotional upset, being touched, excitement, etc?

I don’t think its too affected by those things just generally been declining

10. Has any diagnostic work been done? Diagnosis if available (you can attach your diagnostic tests to the post if you have them.)

His bloodwork consistent with addisons dog, but not in crisis its been pretty stable for a while.

X ray showed distal colon quite distended with feces

Id have to ask more about this

11. Current and previous treatment.
His addisons meds
Enemas/suppositories/disimpaction under sedation

12. Other health concerns
Underweight
