Sasha, 12 year old GSD/Boxer mix, spayed, 56 pounds, excellent BEAM, home cooked, mostly meat and veggies, and Honest Kitchen when traveling, vaccinated, Adequan injections for hip dysplasia. Tumor removed from chest September 2025 that showed characteristics of two types, 3 pathologists couldn't figure out anything except malignant. Recurred as a bump three weeks ago but CT scan shows it had been growing internally. Already the size of a small melon on the outside. CT scan show pressing on carotid artery, esophagus, vagus nerve, but not spread to organs. Surgery is classified as high risk especially regarding the esophagus if cut and gets infected; then radiation, chemo, or both would follow. I read that dogs can get an extra year or more that way, but of course she won't if she doesn't survive the surgery or dies soon from infection. We are having trouble even knowing how to compare surgery or palliative. Thanks so much for any advice or sharing stories. P.S. She is taking Gabapentin due to a slight limp on her front left leg, the side with the tumor.
