Low Platelets/Prednisone Taper
My 6.5 yo Bernedoodle Bodhi was diagnosed with low platelets in late 2025. When we looked back at his lab values over time, he was mostly on the lower end of normal. In researching this further, it seems as if poodles (he is 3/4 poodle) run low normally. The lowest he was was 47,000 in Jan (exactly 2 months ago) and he was put on prednisone at that time. The number jumped up to 217,000 on 60 mg prednisone, but then plummeted back to the 40,000s when his doctor reduced his prednisone to 50 mg (on for about 10 days to 2 weeks). We went back up to 60 mg and his platelet number went back to 351,000/high normal. Now we reduced by 2.5 mg and the number went down a bit to 289,000. My question is about which homeopathic remedies would be best to utilize at this time. His weight is normal around 55 lbs, appetite is very good both before and on prednisone, energy is ok/could be better, mood is ok as well. Diet is raw grass fed beef, grass fed beef hearts, vegetable/fruit meal midday (celery, apple, leafy green, coconut water, a few herbal supplements), grass fed marrow bone each day, honest kitchen food at night, a few healthy freeze dried snacks (lung, liver etc) We notice its a little bit harder to walk (?due to muscle wasting on the steroid). He was also put on the Chinese Herbal Gui Pi Tang a few weeks ago. Reasons for posting: 1) I am concerned about doing too many blood draws/the drain on his immune system, 2) I am wondering whether the Gui Pi Tang is important to take continuously or better to take breaks, 3) I am wondering if there is a homeopathic remedy(remedies) for stimulating platelet production and helping Bodhi to get through the process of rebuilding his muscles. Thank you. @Dr. Jeff @dr. Kristine

Hey Eden!
which homeopathic remedies would be best to utilize at this time.
That was determined during your two hour intial homeopathic evaluation of Bodhi!!

As you know, homeopathic medicines are never correctly prescribed based on a symptom, diagnosis, clinical scenario, etc.

Let's see what @Dr. Christina has to say!

I am glad Dr. Jeff posted that Bodhi is his patient. Did you give the homeopathic medicine he prescribed at that time? Most homeopathic vets do have good success resolving platelet issues by rebalancing the vital force with the remedy, or series of remedies that best match each individual. You would have given what Dr. Jeff prescribed, then tracked all his symptoms, especially BEAM.

If for some reason you did not give the homeopathic medicine at that time, you may want to reschedule with Dr. Jeff to see if symptoms, behaviors, energy level, etc have changed since then. Be sure to schedule your follow up appointment each time.

Anytime something needs to be continued - prednisone, Gui Pi Tang, even specific foods - palliation (or temporary help) is likely happening. maybe you could use your monthly 15 mins Q/A call with me if homeopathy is new to you, or you are not sure which way to go next.

Also, go to the library and click the homeopathy button to get a great overview of how carefully prescribed homeopathic medicines can permanently resolve symptoms by balancing the vital force.
