I am fostering a 1 1/2 year old male neutered cat. He's had a few odd dental issues early in his life (area of necrotic gum tissue on lower jaw, then the carnassial tooth above that area had to be removed. It was full of holes and the tooth below it was damaged as well. Vet said might be immune issue so took him to a dental specialist where he was cleared and given the ok to be adopted). Meanwhile the cat's rectum has been prolapsing a very tiny bit. About 1/2 centimeter at most. It is bloody and wet. He is able to resolve this on his own or our vet has resolved it by taking his temp. The thermometer is enough to push the rectum back into place or it can be done manually.
The cat was evaluated by a Board Cert Internist today and she did another exam and found him to be fine physically. His glands were expressed-all fine and normal. He is otherwise in top BEAM condition, but we need to understand what is going on instead of doing a "purse string" surgery on him to "fix" the symptoms.
I was told to get a prescription royal cannin diet. I will NOT DO THAT. We agreed that adding psyllium husk powder to canned would be ok, but after thinking about it I would rather just add it to raw-a protein he hasn't had much of/if at all and see how he does.
This issue has been going on since SEPTEMBER of 2019 and the tests I've done haven't solved the issue.
Tried: pumpkin to raw, water and pumpkin to raw, moved to canned food, extra water in canned (his stool got too loose-very soft, soft serve). At best he can go about 2-3 days before he pops out for about a day, then it goes back in. He's in a room with other foster cats so very tough to know if he's straining or if there's an issue with his stool so I am going to confine him at least until he passes stool every day. I'm also keep a more detailed chart.
So...I'm not sure how to find homeopathy for this OR if this is not something it can help. I also would like suggestions about what to feed this poor fella other than garbage prescription food or do you agree that psyillum husk is ok.
Thank you! (Oh, the cat is named Buzzbee Bickelfish).
