Flax or chia seeds

Hi from Listen and me!

Recently, I wrote in my notes from one Monday night discussion that, in Chinese medicine, flax seed was warming and chia seed was cooling... I have been giving Listen a sprinkle of both freshly-ground seeds with her evening sludge ie lots of water. Should I switch to chia in warm weather, flax in cold weather?

She has perfect poops and no health problems as far as I can see. She does have symptoms of inbalance - eye boogers sometimes and "snow nose" which is now transitioning to totally black until next winter...

What does she say? Maybe try discontinuing the flax for a few weeks and see if her eye boogers improve.

And if her eyes clear up, then try adding flax back and see if the early warning symptom (eye discharge) returns.

Dr. Jeff,

Listen just turned three and she is an Alaskan Malamute. This has happened for the last two years that her nose develops pink patches in the winter and reverts back to solid black in the summer. Her breeder said that this was "snow nose" and that all of her Mals have this seasonal change...

Yes! Many Malamutes. Not all.

Snow nose is one of the common but abnormal symptoms.

As health builds, the nose stays black for a longer period.

Some usually dogs who usually have black noses become liver colored or even pink, year round (as the root of their imbalance grows).
