1. Gixxer/15/male
2. Neutered
3. Mix: English bulldog, husky, boxer
4. Approx. 55lbs
5. B/E - I noticed he has been more stressed than usual these past few months. It usually happens when my mom leaves the house because she is his main caretaker. (So from this i’m noticing i will help more with taking care of him because i am home 24/7). He also wants to go outside in the backyard a lot more. He has lots of energy though! Way more than last year. He is able to trek through deep snow now and climb up the stairs whereas last year he had trouble. He also sleeps well when he is sleeping.
A - he eats well usually but past two days he has been eating less. He usually cleans his bowl every time but past 2 days he eats maybe 3/4 of it.
M - he seems stressed and sad, he has this drowsy look on his face but again like i mentioned above, he still has energy he is not lethargic. And the bone on the top of his head is becoming more noticeable so it makes him look sad.
6. We feed him raw grass fed beef, boiled chicken soup with parsley and celery in it and a side of steamed sweet potato and broccoli. I also give him a heaping tbsp of honey a day. He drinks really well too.
7. He’s gotten the vaccinations from when he was a pup. He had kidney stones before. And also had to go under for a teeth clean a year ago.
8. So the cough started months ago. But i was treating it with raw honey and propolis and it went away temporarily but then it came back again. The past 2 days i’ve noticed it being a LOT worse. Like in the middle of the night he needs to go outside because of it. It’s usually when he is laying down and sometimes when he is standing up. Today when he coughed i’m not sure if he coughed up blood or leftover liquids from his food since his food is red. I also remember my mom twisted his collar months ago to stop him from swallowing food from outside on the floor that he isnt suppose to eat. Not sure if thats related.
9. I don’t notice a shift when applying what is mentioned. I know he feels better when i pet him and of course when i walk him. It’s just this nasty cough he has it sounds like he wants to throw up but can’t.
10. No and i don’t plan on it because my vet was no help last time he got sick and you guys helped heal him! There is a holistic vet in the area but it’s a long time to become a patient there.
11. No treatment has been done. The last treatment he had was on his mouth being put under to do a deep clean for his gums and teeth which was last year.
12. The main concern is if this is kennel cough or something worse? I’ve heard people in the mm community mention they heal their dogs kennel cough by doing propolis shock therapy. Can this be confirmed please. @Dr. Jeff @Dr. Christina

Hey Alessia!

Yay! I love to see this increase in vitality!!

past 2 days he eats maybe 3/4 of it.
Keep a close eye on his appetite. It will be a great clue to his inner balance going forward.

Does he get much variety or any bones, glands, organs, calcium, etc. Variety is key to feeding fresh and raw. It's a bit less important if you are feeding a complete and balanced raw food like Small Batch or Viva.

is if this is kennel cough
It sure sounds like it could be. What has your local vet said about Gixxer's cough?

Was he exposed to Canine Cough when this started (kennel, boarding, daycare, grooming)? If so, consider the Bordetella nosode:

Thank for the reply and sorry it took so long to get back!

So, we haven’t gone to get him checked because we don’t have a vet we trust in the area… would you suggest booking a call with a vet here to see him?

Also, i do give him cartilage bones and he likes chicken feet but he doesnt always seem to want it. So i just stick to what he likes.

He has not been exposed to any dogs with kennel cough that i know of. However he did go get his teach cleaned at a place we brought him to.

Also, something else i noticed with Gixxer is that his eyes are watering and white discharge is coming out? He doesnt open his eyes fully but sometimes he does. Not sure if this is caused from being outside in the cold or something more serious?

Lastly, we had an incident in the house a day after posting this where high stress was peaked and a bunch of axe was sprayed that my dog was exposed to. i worry about his health being affected by that. I noticed the bones at the side of his head become more prominent. Is this normal? To me it looks like his head is shrinking lol. Maybe he isn’t getting enough glucose?

Happy New Year Alessia!

Yes. Especially if you want to know what's going on in his physical body.

A vet exam and any indicated diagnostics are safe.

eyes are watering and white discharge is coming out?
Yes. This is a common, but abnormal symptom that may be secondary to any respiratory bug or it may also be an indication of his body trying to heal through discharge.

At 15 years of age, muscle mass loss is common.

It sounds like Gixxer may need a comprehensive whole-istic evaluation to help in the best way possible.

You can also book a 15 minute call for Holistic Medical Decision Making with myself or Dr. Christina.

I'd recommend working with a dedicated homeopathic practitioner - this works fine long distance, because YOU are telling them what you observe. This way you can find and use remedies that are more specific and targeted to his symptoms - over time, with chronic conditions, this is a more effective way to relieve and strengthen him. I surely see great possibility for improvement here.

Your consult with one of our dedicated homeopathic doctors can help you and the Gix focus on his most salient needs. Constitutional prescribing will do much more than "this for that" nosodes. He seems to be a wonderful old guy, and you can make him comfortable and happy. I've got an old guy, too, and one needs to be prepared for large and small adjustments - with proper remedies - as the years go by.

Read up, get advice, and ask anything. All our best...

@Dr. Jeff we had to rush Gixxer to the pet hospital because he collapsed and had trouble breathing… the vet said he has water around his lungs and he might have either cancer or heart failure… she is saying he doesn’t have much time left. We have a call booked with you for monday. I hope we can bring gixxer home. Is there any way for him to holistically heal from this?

Hi Alessia!

I'm so sorry to hear about Gixxer's health.

Did the vet remove and test the fluid? Removing the fluid will quickly help Gixxer breathe easier.

Are they doing an echocardiogram of his heart?

bring gixxer home.
Yes, once he's stable, what he really needs is love, feeling safe and supported.

Is there any way for him to holistically heal from this?
It depends on the full context of what is going on with his body. At his age and with a life-threatening dis-ease then healing may look like his vital force leaving his body to run free in the universe.

You may want to learn more about Gail Pope's "Love Sandwich" by taking her excellent hospice course (which is in your HA! member library).

Please keep us informed of his progress.

Thank you Dr. Jeff. I appreciate your reply. So she is doing a test of the fluid right now. I will get back to you. So i guess this is goodbye for gixxer then? He survived the procedure of removing the liquid. So he is stable to come home with us but she says the fluid could come back in days or weeks… so you suggest not giving him any cleansing procedures like celery juice for example? Should we just give him his favourite foods and snacks for the remainder of his time here with us? Keep him full of love and care?

"Could" come back...

cleansing procedures like celery juice for example?

give him his favourite foods and snacks

Keep him full of love and care?

Yes, yes and yes!

Celery juice, heavy metal detox smoothie, blueberry/kale smoothie, etc. would be great to use.

If he likes any of them that is.

Your "job" is to continuously upgrade his mitochondrial function through joy and love. By engaging him with your presence, your company and love and any favorite foods, games or activities.

Frequent snuffle mat sessions with freeze dried hearts or his favorite treat are perfect for stimulating healing.

I look forward to our HMDM call tomorrow.
