My dog ingested a lot of acorns and is acting very sluggish and not himself. I'm a little freaked out. Should I make him vomit or take him to the vet.

sorry I did not post his on the wrong board. I resposted this in the peer advise. Thank you!

Hi Kathy-

Possibly (or bring him to your vet, who will induce vomiting)

How much does he weigh?

Did he swallow about six acorns? Or more?

he is only 8 pounds. When I went out there to look at the acorns on the front porch there were a lot that were cracked open but there were some large pieces of acorn left. I also realize many of those cracked acorns were related to squirrels. so I'm not sure he's eating the whole acorn or how many acorns he ate. I did give him some hydrogen peroxide but he didn't vomit and I'm sure some of his discomfort is due to that. I gave him less than 1 teaspoon and he is 8 pounds. I also gave him a fair amount of water with that with a syringe.

would you recommend going to the vet to induce vomiting?

It may be a good idea, even though we don't know if he actually ate any acorns.

What time was the ingestion?

I just spoke to one of the vet techs or the receptionist who talked to some of the vet techs and they stated I could watch him and bring him in if he continues to get worse. He did however, eat his food and he looks a little less uncomfortable now i.e. his tail is not down all the time now

I did speak to the senior vet tech and they stated that inducing vomiting could cause more problems with the acorns coming up but I forgot why. Hence they also advised me to just watch him. Having a puppy that likes to eat anything and everything is clearly very stressful, particularly last month when he ate 2 alleive and i have him hospitalized for 3 days.
