Yes. Spaying provides protective effects against mammary cancer in dogs, and it's most protective if done before first heat cycle. However, spaying has negative effects in other areas, especially in larger dogs. As Dr. Christina said, the best defense against all kinds of health issues is a strong vital force.
 
My daughter's Chihuahua is 15 months and she has had 2 heat cycles already so I hope we haven't placed her at risk of breast cancer later on. Anyway, we will get her spayed ASAP. Does every heat cycle increase the risk?
