This post was inspired by my research for the soothing supplement portion of the "Noise Sensitivity" Empower Hour! webinars which can be found archived in the member section of the main site.

When I was reminded about the Rx Vitamins product, Nutricalm.

Nutricalm, contains several research-proven ingredients that can help calm your pets including the adaptogenic herb ashwagandha.

Adaptogens can help decrease symptoms like fear of noises both energetically as well as physically/pharmacologically.

Adaptogens (that help your pets "adapt") can decrease thunder and firework fears by energetically re-balancing the vital force, similar to how homeopathy works.

These plants can be used along with homeopathy to enhance the effects of the homeopathic medicines.

Adaptogens help your pets bodies adapt to the many stressors of everyday life by acting both physically as well as energetically.

Stressors like toxins found in food, water, air (and sometimes even applied to the skin).

Stressors can decrease the energy which is critical for maintaining our pets quality of life.

Energy, like ATP from mitochondria, is the physical part of Vitality.

BEAM and other subjective biomarkers of quality of life reflect vitality.

Unfortunately, however, the modern medical model does not yet recognize the critical non-physical part of Vitality.

Without an understanding of the Vitality and Balance of the individual, the growing number of pets with chronic relapsing dis-ease will continue to get wore.

This is from the beginning from a 2018 vet journal paper discussing adaptogens:

Balance is the key word with adaptogens; they adapt to the body stressors creating harmony in animals. If the immune system is heightened, adaptogens can depress to balance. If depleted, they can exemplify to balance.

Nutritive tonic herbs build and strengthen. They tonify and restore the organ systems, are rich in minerals, trace minerals and vitamins, fiber, and mucilage, and take on the role of diuretics and adaptogens in many cases. These herbs also play a key role in the absorption of vital nutrients, and can be considered both food and medicine that act to heal and support the body.

Both adaptogens and nutritive tonic herbs are antioxidants and help to regulate the body systems with ease. Without overstimulating the immune system, they can be used to instill balance in conjunction with a healthy lifestyle. The following game changers are known for their healing powers...

These game changing herbs included ashwagandha, ginseng, schisandra, etc.

One paper says:

Studies indicate ashwagandha possesses anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antistress, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, hemopoetic, and rejuvenating properties. It also appears to exert a positive influence on the endocrine, cardiopulmonary, and central nervous systems. The mechanisms of action for these properties are not fully understood. Toxicity studies reveal that ashwagandha appears to be a safe compound.

Introduction

Withania somnifera Dunal (ashwagandha, WS) is widely used in Ayurvedic medicine, the traditional medical system of India. It is an ingredient in many formulations prescribed for a variety of musculoskeletal conditions (e.g., arthritis, rheumatism), and as a general tonic to increase energy, improve overall health and longevity, and prevent disease in athletes, the eld- erly, and during pregnancy.1,2 Many pharmacological studies have been conducted to investi- gate the properties of ashwagandha in an attempt to authenticate its use as a multi-purpose medicinal agent. For example, anti-inflammatory properties have been investigated to validate...

Research reveals ashwagandha possesses anti-inflammatory, antitumor, antistress, antioxidant, immunomodulatory, hemopoetic, and rejuvenating properties. Ashwagandha also appears to benefit the endocrine, cardiopulmonary, and central nervous systems. Few articles were discovered on the mechanism of action for these effects. Several preliminary studies have been conducted on animals. A summary of the findings of these studies is presented below...

Chemistry
Since many of ashwagandha’s uses have not been scientifically validated, skepti- cism can naturally be expected when presented with an herb purportedly useful in so many ailments. In Ayurvedic medicine there is a class of herbs, including WS, known as adaptogens or vitalizers. Adaptogens cause adaptive reac- tions to disease, are useful in many unrelated illnesses, and appear to produce a state of non- specific increased resistance (SNIR)10,16 to adverse effects of physical, chemical, and bio- logical agents. They are relatively innocuous, have no known specific mechanism of action, normalize pathological effects, and are usu- ally glycosides or alkaloids of a plant.17,18

Master herbalist Donnie Yance summarizes adaptogens beautifully in the this article:

"...In conjunction with creating and living a healthy life, adaptogens can be taken on a daily basis to prevent disease and to act as an important enhancer of vitality, balance, and stress management. By enhancing responsiveness to stress and reinforcing equilibrium, adaptogens promote the greatest potential for wellness and longevity. Adaptogens assist the body by their ability to normalize homeostasis, optimize metabolism, revitalize exhausted organ systems, and improve resistance to a variety of adverse factors without side effects. Adaptogens enhance cellular energy processes, restore mitochondrial function and repair, and build "adaptive energy reserve." Mitochondrial dysfunction has been identified as one of the principle causes of age-related bioenergetic decline and a multitude of diseases.181

Utilizing a combination of these unique plants for broad-spectrum health promotion offers a new approach to complementary medicine and to the elevation of well-being..."
