1. Jett aka Nino, approx. 12 years old, male
2. Neutered
3. Corgi and Border Collie and possibly Labrador
4. Weights approx. 29 lbs.

5. BEAM:
  • Behavior: gets easily anxious and scared of loud noises: he hides in dark spots and follows me or my husband around. Also when it's time to eat, he gets very anxious. Like overly excited about it and eats it really fast.
  • Energy: it fluctuates. He's been willing to go on walks but resists a little and wants shorter walks.
  • Appetite: When it's time to eat, he gets very anxious. Like overly excited about it and eats it really fast. And lately he has been eating more things outside like dirt and mulch, which we do our best to keep him from it.
  • Mood: Most of the time, when he's not anxious, he's very cuddly and wants to hang out around us.
6. Diet:
  • March-late July (inspired by Juliette de Bairacli Levy's book): slowly transitioned him to a raw diet
    • In the morning: ~2/3 cup of overnight grains (barely, rye, wheat, oats) soaked in raw milk overnight.
    • At night: ~100g of raw chicken or beef with 2 tbsp of oats, 1 tsp of kelp, topping of carrots or some herb (like parsley or comfrey).
  • After the colitis incident (this diet started about 3 weeks ago):
    • In the morning: 1/2 heaping cup of steamed mash potatoes and mashed greens (green beans or broccoli), roughly blueberries or raspberries.
    • At night: same as morning, but with ~50g raw chicken or beef. Sometimes 100g, but then mashed potatoes added as a topper.
7. Vaccination History: Last shot was rabies in 2024, aside from that no shots in the last 7-8 years. No medications.

8. Primary problem:
  • It began back about a month or so ago when he suddenly started showing clear symptoms of colitis. The first sign happened while we were running with him and he started pooping while running and he's never done that - that's when we first noticed blood in his stool. After that, anything that stimulated him would trigger him to go outside to poop again.
    • He kept rushing outside often during the day with diarrhea and blood. About a week before this happened, he had gotten in the kitchen's trash and ate a lot of food from a same day take-out bowl that had meat, rice, and spicy chickpeas in it. Also, there have been a lot more frequent strong thunderstorms here lately, which make him very anxious to the point of trembling.
  • We fasted him for the duration of the diarrhea, which got better after 3 days or so, and the blood also stopped.
  • After that, we started him back on food with white rice for about 2 days and he got a fever. Was trembling all night and his energy was really low.
  • Took him to a 'regular' vet - did a blood test and x-rays. The results showed really high CPL levels and the xrays showed an enlarged liver, spleen, thickened intestines, and hip dysplasia. He got a Pancreatitis diagnosis.
    • They sent us home with Metronidazole, but we decided not to give that to him.
    • Instead, we fasted him for 24 hours and started him back up with brown rice morning and night, then switched to just mashed potatoes for a few days, morning and night.
  • On just the mashed potatoes, his poop had the same consistency as the potatoes. Then we decided to add raw meat to see if that would help, but now he struggles to poop. He goes 4-5 times a day, but he strains and only droplets come out, some bigger than others, but it's just not a regular stool.
9. We take him for short walks and try and play with him to stimulate him, but the stool doesn't change. It hasn't changed in about 3-4 days.

10. Please see attached document for diagnostic results.

11. We got some Rescue Remedy for his anxiety and have also been working on being more mindful of our own energy around him and that has worked well. He seems to be making progress in that sense. But we're not doing any other specific treatments or giving any medications.

12. Other concerns:
  • We have been noticing that his temperature fluctuates throughout the day in the last 2-3 days. (We don't check with a thermometer but touching his ears). He feels warmer than usual sometimes, but then he goes back to normal. We wonder about internal inflammation when it comes to that.
  • We notice his back legs shaking a lot when we go for walks or if he's standing for a little while, which we are bringing up to a holistic vet next week to look at.
  • He's been losing quite a bit of weight with all these food changes and fasting, so we'd really like to know what would be a good amount of food to keep him at a healthy weight.

We are planning to take him to a holistic vet in the area next week. We're hoping that some acupuncture and chiropractic adjustments will help, but in the meantime we'd love some guidance with correct food and maybe some additional insights on what might be happening with his digestive system. We really doubt he has Pancreatitis because he's not really showing any clear symptoms of that. No vomiting at all the whole time. No diarrhea since the colitis situation (which btw, we recognized or self-diagnosed colitis by doing our own research at home when it was happening).

We had a very helpful call with @Dr. Christina last week, and would like to bring this here for further help. We are endlessly grateful.

@Dr. Christina @Dr. Jeff

Welcome to HA! Tiffany!

Thanks for making your first post about Nino.

I'm sorry to hear about his health challenges.

Great work with this Spring's diet upgrade!!

Yes, great observation!

Body temp is a reflection of immune activation and metabolic processes which fluctuate 24/7.

It is objective evidence that his body is doing its job.

Ah yes. Thats probably why he's scavenging outside.

Perhaps try feeding him extra calories using freeze dried Green Juju goat recipe via snuffle mat and other games throughout the day.

And add a vet homeopath to his team who practices pure homeopathy and will help you decipher both the internal (like the pancreatitis test results) and internal symptoms:

And please keep us updated about your journey together along this path to healing as nature intends.
