Last week, when my kitty Piper has her swollen ear problem, with the help of Dr. Jeff and Dr. Sara, I able to more clearly define Piper's symptoms, turn these symptoms into rubrics and find the remedy I needed.. . . Sulphur! I chuckled to myself because when I was attending the Homopeathic college in Toronto and we were doing case studies, our instructor said "Don't come up with Sulphur as your remedy. It is so overused!!" In all fairness, Sulphur has many applications in Homeopathy. Dr. Hahnemann (referred to as the Father of Homeopathy) often began treatment with Sulphur and finished the treatment with another remedy. He also did it in reverse when he chose a remedy then finished the treatment with Sulphur.
Well over the past few years, I have repertorized a number of cases and almost every time, Sulphur creeps onto the remedy graph. Not strongly represented by the rubrics, but usually somewhere on the graph, sure enough, Sulphur is there. Sometimes, it is clearly evident Sulphur is the remedy that will work and that is the case for Piper.
My poor kitty had a fungal infection in her inner ear, with the outward sign being that of a severely swollen ear, basically an aural hematoma. Last week, the vet made an incision in her outer ear, drained the accumulated blood and put in some stitches to hold the ear flap together. Previous thinking was the vigorous scratching of the ear produced the hematoma, however, new schools of thought believe this is another form of an allergic response by the body. We are not finished with the treatment regime, but at least now, Piper will allow me to bathe and clean her ear (provided of course, there is a yummy treat to follow!) The swelling is almost gone and Piper had her stitches removed yesterday. We are on the road to recovery!
