Dr. Feynman suggested using the VDI Lab for IBD/lymphoma test. I discussed this with my vet today she said she would do research on it and was unsure of the reliability of such a test which is why biopsies are always recommended. Can anyone answer how we reliable this test would be?

Your vet asks an important and fantastic question. Accuracy of any specific test is important, and diagnostic accuracy also varies from lab to lab. For example, in house tests can be ~30% less accurate than the same tests run by a reference lab such as Antech or Idexx (according to one survey done by a lab) .

*Full thickness* intestinal biopsies are the gold standard for differentiating IBD and lymphoma, but unfortunately require general anesthesia and surgery. Even endoscopic biopsies can b mis-leading because these are super small.

This blood test would be helpful as an adjunct, not a replacement, for a biopsy (of any sort).

I will reach out to Randy, the founding scientist of VDI lab to get his opinion.
