    Wound on tail

Well, at this point it doesn't matter, but any deep cut or puncture would follow the same pattern. They look healed, but the infection is cooking away underneath, and will finally break through and drain.

    Wound on tail

With bite wounds, the wound will scab over and *appear* healed but there is still bacteria underneath. Now it has abscessed out and drained itself. Perfectly normal process. :)

    Wound on tail

Not overgrooming, it's way too deep for that. But he will (and should) lick the heck out of it! I am 99% positive that is a bite abscess (100% sure if he goes outside or there's another cat in his life). It's open and draining, which is good. Keep it clean, use hot compress twice a day if he...

Darwin raw food diet for kidney disease

Azodyl has the best science, but Felix is a duplicate, much cheaper, and the folks who make it are awesome!

    Cat with elevated kidney values

My cat loved asparagus so much I would split an entire bunch with him. He would push aside fresh halibut to get to it!

Canine waking us in the wee hours

Goooood question. Hard to say, you could see a response right quick, or it may take several nights to start to notice a diminishment. 🦉

Street cat Aslan’s interesting blood results

What a lucky cat Aslan is! And handsome! (He looks a lot like my cat Perry, who was also a rescue!) The bloodwork shows that he is still fighting an infection, and he's pretty anemic (low red blood cells) and undernourished (low albumin/protein). His mouth does have some inflammation around...

    Cat with elevated kidney values

Wheatgrass is fine but kale is quite high in potassium in the array of vegetables. As long as it's tiny bits, though, it's okay. Parsley is good, lots of antioxidants,... but again, tiny amounts as it does contain a compound that can cause problems.

Darwin raw food diet for kidney disease

Hi Daysha! I do not have a good opinion of Darwin's. I wrote a whole post on my newsletter (you can subscribe for free! 😁 ): Little Big Cat News Alert! I agree to drop the Aventi, though really there is no conflict between Renafood and Aventi. But definitely keep some sort of probiotics--they...

    Peanut Butter

I love peanut butter, but sadly virtually every commercial peanut butter, even organic, contains sugar in some form, or other unwanted ingredients. Even Justin's has palm oil. Yuck. If you want to use peanut butter, as a treat (?), get freshly ground, peanuts only, nothing added. Sprouts...

    Cut on tail

How's the cut healing? Hibiclens is a good soap but needs to be rinsed off. This could be an older bite wound that is trying to resolve. Keep it clean, hot compress if he tolerates it, best to keep it open as long as possible. Watch for swelling indicating that pus is building up under the scab.

Canine waking us in the wee hours

That formula is has multiple essences in combination, it's complete. You don't need a professional. A really tough one may need a turbo formula like Quiet Night, but in simpler cases you can even make your own formulas! https://littlebigcat.com/do-it-yourself-bach-flower-essences/

Question about creatinine level and recommended diet

No doubt! I've been reading a lot about mitochondria, they are assuming a very outsized role in my mind as the basis of metabolism. They do so many things, and are--as you mention--susceptible to so many things! Science is good at explaining mechanisms, but the "why"--the energetic...

Question about creatinine level and recommended diet

OMG, mostly I learned that I am way out-of-date on molecular biology! It was really overwhelming... I will need to listen to the lectures over again to really "get it." One of my big takeaways was actually about an Amazon tribe compared to people living in Sao Paulo, Brazil. They ate about the...

Question about creatinine level and recommended diet

Honestly, we all have a lot to learn, even those of us who have been doing this a long time! I just spent 2 days in a continuing education seminar on pet nutrition, and there is SO much new information coming out all the time... I felt pretty darn ignorant! So we are where we are, and we do our...
