Every paragraph of Hahnemann's Organon is exquisitely crafted and needs to be read carefully to be fully understood.

You may want to read this one over at least 3 times to fully discern its meaning:

"Useful to the physician in assisting him to cure are the particulars of the most probable exciting cause of the acute disease, as also the most significant points in the whole history of the chronic disease, to enable him to discover its fundamental cause, which is generally due to a chronic miasm. In these investigations, the ascertainable physical constitution of the patient (especially when the disease is chronic), his moral and intellectual character, his occupation, mode of living and habits, his social and domestic relations, his age, sexual function, etc., are to be taken into consideration."

It is especially relevant to our discussion of seemingly acute dis-eases.

Because this paragraph introduces us to the fundamental cause for all health challenges.

Here he briefly mentions miasms as that cause.

Think of a miasm as a way of classifying the internal energetic imbalance. Hahnemann originally considered miasms to be from acute infections like syphilis, gonorrhea and scabies.

We'll discuss miasms in greater detail.

How might a chronic miasm (or underlying energetic imbalance) be the cause if your pet gets diarrhea or vomiting from getting into the garbage?

Organon, Paragraph 5, shows us again, how Hahnemann was looking for deep and permanent cures (first 2 paragraphs).

We have been talking about a acute diseases in the recent Connecticut and streaming seminar on Vitality and Acute Homeopathy, and how you can treat acute problems at home with homeopathic medicines.

Especially in the Clinical Scenarios you are getting each week, you will notice we keep mentioning that often these apparently acute symptoms are indicative of an underlying chronic imbalance.

In this paragraph 5 Hahnemann is pointing to key case taking questions one needs to ask to be able to find the medicine that is most closely related to the totality of symptoms for the one chronic dis-ease for that individual animal, as well as acute episodes.

Hahnemann says finding the "exciting cause in an acute disease" will help cure the individual. We call that the trigger. Was it a vaccine, emotional stress, over-exertion, toxins? You may not know and it is useful to look.

He says for chronic illness, finding the significant points in the evolution (when changes in general were noted) so in acute problems this could be recent changes. For instance, before the diarrhea he was itchy, or increased thirst, or avoiding certain foods.

To paraphrase for animals, he speaks of considering physical constitution, emotional state, behavior, and relationship to others (people and animals). Some of this may be evident when there is an acute ailment since the vital force is more active in this state and the symptoms (language of the body)

You can begin to track symptoms from the past as well as current ones to develop a more complete picture that your professional homeopath can use to treat the chronic disease, especially if you successfully choose a useful medicine to treat the acute problem.

To summarize

To heal is the goal.

Restore health rapidly, gently, permanently.

Basic principles.

Remove obstacles to cure.

Find the cause ("trigger")
