However, overgrooming is different. It can be related to food or inhalant allergies, pain, endocrine imbalance, parasites, and more. A vet visit is a good idea to rule out physical causes.
In kitties, overgrooming is often a behavioral/emotional/stress-related issue. Easy and effective ways to address stress include flower essences and Play Therapy (Play Therapy | Little Big Cat).
