Canine Flu remedy?

H

The canine flu (H3N2) is said to be spreading quickly in my area, and it is said many dogs are getting seriously ill. Classes are being canceled, etc. Is there a known homeopathic remedy for this canine flu epidemic?

Thanks for asking Christine!

The process for finding helpful homeopathic medicines to use in situations like this is called finding the "genus epidemicus".

In brief, this method involves:

1- collecting all of the symptoms from many dogs who gotten ill from the flu

2-putting all of those symptoms together as if they were seen in one patient, and then repertorizing them

3-using the homeopathic medicine that best matches the symptoms in the patient

Dr. Paul Herscu does this every year for human flus.

I'm not aware of a vet who has the done the same, but I will ask around.

In addition, if you put together a symptom list and post it here or bring it to an Empower Hour, we can work on finding suitable remedies.

Using this method and the awesome successes with it helped catapult homeopathic treatment into the mainstream (in the 1800s!).

This part of a long reply to an MD homeopathy skeptic.

Lastly, you can click here for a description of this method.

Thank you for this reply and the resources, Dr. Jeff!

While researching on-line I found this site for a homeopathic vet that has found a remedy for the Canine Flu. It seems there are a couple possible remedies, with the preferred one being Phosphorus, and Nux vomica if the Phosphorus does not produce "sterling results".

Hey Christine-

I just clicked over to the 2015 article and have a few quick comments.

The most effective genus epidemicus method use:

1. The symptoms of the current epidemic

2. Locally-apparent symptoms (the ones you are seeing in your area).

So whereas the article is a great place to start, and you can learn more from it, I'd advise better characterizing the locally-seen symptoms.

Using those for your genus will be most effective.

Christine,
Thanks so much for being proactive about health concerns and being prepared for an epidemic.

Often, and it seems to be case with this flu, the media over-reacts which leads to classes being cancelled in areas where there were few to no flu cases.

I have seen this with Leptospirosis as well, which led to many animals being vaccinated when it was not needed.

One step could be to call a number of veterinary clinics in your area and ask how many cases of the flu they have seen.

Of course, all the steps you take to increase vitality and build health create natural immunity to the flu.
