Tonight Dr. Shelley Brown and Julia McPeek from Harmony Vet Center joined us to discuss ways to help optimize energy flow and health span for our beloved animal companions (and us) using Qigong and Acupuncture.
Take Aways from the Webinar:
- Drs. Brown and McPeek explained how qigong and acupuncture both work with the meridian energy channels but differ in approach – acupuncture targets the physical while qigong starts outward in the soul and moves inward, though both have direct physiological effects.
- Acupuncture uses needles to unblock chi flow and restore balance, releasing hormones to reduce pain and inflammation. Qigong comes from the soul outward while acupuncture goes from physical inward, but they can work together and both influence mind, body and spirit.
- Dr. McPeek led the group in qigong practices like organ smiling to cultivate happiness and health, advising setting intention, permission, gratitude and respect for boundaries. She detailed techniques for different organs that can benefit pet guardians and pets.
- When choosing instruction, consider a practitioner’s lineage, certifications like medical qigong, and whether their approach feels balanced and integrative. Be wary of claims to cure through energy alone without veterinary care. Experience styles and teachers to find the right fit.
- Dr. McPeek guided cultivating a positive energy ball through the lower dantian and heart while imprinting intentions of health, then sharing it with pets. Case studies showed how resolving energy imbalances through qigong and acupuncture relieved conditions like hyperactivity when underlying issues were addressed.

Joan Ranquet shared some beautiful and transformative stories about her use of Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT) with animals.
Joan also shared practical tips and gave us a demo. Click/tap here if you’d like even more by ordering her book about EFT for pets and people.
Key Takeaways
- EFT tapping can help calm anxious animals by tapping on acupressure points while focusing on the animal’s emotions.
- Tapping works remotely and can be done on the human first to address their own anxiety about the situation.
- Consistent tapping before an anxiety-provoking event (like fireworks) can help prevent the animal’s fearful response altogether.
- Moving during a tapping session helps the animal integrate the emotional release.
- Keep tapping statements simple – focusing on “I’m scared” or “I’m sad” makes the biggest impact.

Tonight, Leslie Grasa, a worldwide Laughter Yoga leader, laughed her way into our hearts, shared a beautiful shamanic meditation, and got us all smiling & laughing.
Here are a few resources she shared:
Take aways from the webinar:
- Leslie provided an overview of laughter yoga, explaining that it is an exercise program where participants learn to laugh without needing a reason. Various breathing techniques and movements are incorporated along with laughter to provide health benefits like stress reduction and improved mood.
- Leslie detailed her experience living with muscular dystrophy and chronic Lyme disease. She found laughter yoga and brain retraining techniques helped calm her nervous system and support her physical health. The daily practice has become a transformative tool in managing her conditions.
- Leslie reminisced about past pets who comforted and supported her through medical challenges as a child. She realized one dog would take on her physical pain and became sick. This led her to seek alternative therapies to care for herself and animals energetically.
- Leslie guided us through an animal communication meditation: participants closed their eyes and posed a question to their animal companions, listening for any messages. Leslie encouraged non-judgment of any insights that arose from opening to communication.
- Leslie led the group in clapping, breathing, and various movements paired with laughter. She emphasized laughter’s proven mental and physical health effects from clinical trials. Participants were invited to “fake it till they make it” if not feeling mirth.
- Leslie shared crediting laughter with stabilizing her after a car accident by preventing shock. She guided practicing laughter responses to everyday stresses, believing this trains the brain like martial arts.
- Some participants described animals appearing with messages of support, or reactions like barking or sleeping during the session. Louise was moved by communing with past pets simultaneously.
- Leslie provided options like daily online sessions, videos, and training to become a leader. She offered contact details and enthusiasm for the practice’s impacts on her mental well-being and chronic conditions.

Tonight, Donna Lozito, an animal communicator and homeopath shared her amazing journey and gave us a wonderful overview of the power of energy balance and transfer.
Key Takeaways
- Animal communication allows us to understand an animal’s viewpoint and unique perception of the world. This builds a deeper connection and can help address behavioral issues.
- Energy fields surround us and interact, influencing each other. Being aware of our own energy and emotions allows us to better understand our impact.
- Homeopathy views symptoms as an expression of imbalance beginning in the energetic field. It aims to stimulate the vital force and support the body’s natural healing.
- Practicing quieting the mind and listening from the heart space strengthens intuitive communication between people and animals.
- Homeopathy book recommendations: Wendy Jensen “Practical handbook of veterinary homeopathy”, Don Hamilton “Homeopathic care of cats and dogs”

Key Takeaways
Susan Pitcairn and Dr. Richard Pitcairn have researched and promoted vegetarian/vegan diets since the 1970s. Jan Allegretti has recommended these diets to clients for over 20 years with good results. Jan is the author of the wonderful “The Fresh & Flexible Meal Plan: The Easiest, Most Nutritious Way to Feed Your Dog and Cat” and Susan is a coauthor of the classic “Dr. Pitcairn’s Complete Guide to Natural Health for Dogs & Cats”.
Benefits seen from vegan diets: 80% of animals improve just from diet change before other treatments, more energy, better coat, less arthritis, clearer skin, better digestion, calmer behavior; Dogs and cats seem peaceful and long-lived (12-14 years).
- Vegan and vegetarian diets can provide complete and balanced nutrition for dogs and cats.
- These diets are associated with health benefits like improved skin, coat, energy, and longevity.
- They help address sustainability issues like water use, land use, and carbon emissions (vegan dogs save millions of gallons of water and acres of land yearly; vegan diets use 1/15th of the resources of standard diets; could feed 12 billion people on current farmland.)
- Health and Humane Benefits: Toxins store in animal fat; plant foods have fewer; Vegan animals avoid cruel factory farming practices; aligns values of caring for all species.
- Variety is key: use fresh, whole foods with variety – not the same recipe daily; rotate through recipes with different protein sources; add fruits, vegetables, oils, superfoods like spirulina.

SUMMARY: Tonight our guest Ana Maria Vasquez shared holistic actions that can be deeply healing to our animals (and us).
We get the best of both worlds when we trust our intuition as well as our vets. Holistic actions which “follow the energy” optimize quality of life and health span.
This integration of energetic and physical paradigms helps us transform from “molecular caterpillars”, limited by drugs and supplements, to “energetic butterflies”.
